Bug screen

Hello. How do you keep the bugs from flying in your windows? Put up a screen? Mosquito net? Thanks <img src="/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" align="absmiddle">

Hi Silver, I ran into this problem a few months ago and came up with a <a target="_blank" href="http://thetuckerbag.blogspot.com/2011/05/making-screens.html">semi permanent (and very cheap) solution</a>. Magnets are the key<img src="/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" align="absmiddle">

I think I will pick some up. Its surprising what spontaniously falls off Little Sanitee.

 oh yeay, craft store sell glue in all sorts of lovely colors<img src="/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" align="absmiddle">

The outside one looks easier to do but
Attracts more attention...

I made black out screens and secured them with velcro, which worked well and didn't leave permanent marks. I've seen people use the strips of magnet. The only reason I didn't is because it was harder for me to fold up and store

Refrigerator magnets can be cut in any length or width, and wouldn't require the attachment of velcro to the car, making them more attractive and transportable to other vehicles of equal applicability.</div>

I don't have metal on the inside of the window or magnets would have worked really well

That's a good point. I wouldn't have been able to do it before, but now that I don't use the back doors it might be an option

That's what I do.  Doors close just fine over the dime sized super magnets TwoKnives turned me on to a while back. Vickie

The only problem I see with this (in my case) is that each night I have to velcro up my black out shades. If there was bug netting permanently on the door I don't know how I'd do that. A creative person with a sewing machine could easily make a black out AND but screen in one. Oh, the possibilities

<div> </div><div>Do you know how to use a sewing machine?  I took industrial sewing a decade ago, but I've never had either a machine nor a place to set one up.  I had an idea to make a jacket with an outer skin of Velcro loops, but that was before such a product existed.  So much for timing

You might try and see if there is a makerspace or hackerspace in your area that has one.  Some have open door policies, others you might need to get an invite to.

For drivers side and passenger doors. We cut reflectix to fit window. Glued velcro on outside edges (strip/flexible magnets would have been better). Measured how much window could be opened without a human arm entering to get at the lock. Cut  opening in reflectix matching lowered window opening, but leaving strip of reflectix at top to attach to door frame. Duct taped strip of bug screen on inside of opening of reflectix. Windows can be lowered about 2 or 3 inches. Works for us.
