Does anyone know about boondocking in Canada?  I'm heading up to the Icefields parkway next week and wouldn't mind not paying the rather outrageous camping fees up there.

Patschum - We were in Canada about two months ago and visited the national parks starting at Revelstoke then north along the Icefields Parkway to Jasper. Canada's national park rules are the same as the US - no camping outside of established campgrounds. Unfortunately there are not many roads along the parkway so there isn't any easy way to get into areas where boondocking is allowed. Some of the smaller primitive campgrounds are much more reasonable.

If you're from the US you'll get a little break because each US dollar is worth $1.30 in Canada so you're getting a discount of about 25%.

We did find some excellent boondocking outside the parks between Revelstoke and Glacier and also outside of Banff. Check on my map here - https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zWUSQ5x4Gi9s.kBKwuXReQ0l8&msa=0&dg=feature

Have a good trip. The parks are beautiful!

Have you looked at www.freecampsites.net yet?

Also there's a ton of crown land (equal to BLM) where you can boondock - here's a link that will help explain how, where and rules

There's a link on that site that puts you in to the Alberta government forest land use maps.

I'd never heard of the Icefields Parkway before - more roads on my bucket list...
At the rate I'm adding things I need to live to be 150... :D
