Hi everyone, Lisa here (silly balloon animal lady).  Anyone in the Yuma area? I'll be here for a few days.
I'm having RTR withdrawals! I miss you all so much!

Aloha,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

We are in Yuma at the Q Casino. We will be leaving tomorrow afternoon and heading to slab city though.

I've never camped in Yuma... Did visit the train museum once and use to attend the Angel Spring Training games when they played there. Are you guys camping near the River? BLM, Indian Reservation Property or ?

I'm heading down that way to get the tires I wanted for the trailer and will likely spend a few days before heading to Erinburg.

Thanks for your replies. I'd like to go to Fortuna Pond, but I heard the road is bad and you need a 4 wheel drive vehicle.
Maybe I'll go park at the Q casino tonight with Caryn. I slept at Flying J last night.

I'm waiting to get new tires too!
Aloha,
Lisa

There is a lot of BLM land near American Girl Mine. Wide open spaces. About 20 minutes back into Yuma. Next exit on I-8 west is a rest stop where you can dump trash and get non-potable water and get a fair view of Imperial Sand Dunes. Look up Ogilby road. I think it's the 2nd exit past the casino/road to Algodones. A lot easier to get into and out of than either the RTR site or Ehrenberg.

Hi Lisa,

I got back so late from Algodones, that we decided to leave in the morning. So we are still at the Q in free RV parking. Let me know if you head this way so we can meet up.

Lisa, if you're following the Google map route then the road is indeed very bad. It usually tells you to take S Ave 7E to E County 7 1/2 St....horrible road!

There's another easy way in to Fortuna Pond and the road is almost normal - well, it was last year anyways and I haven't heard any whining about it this year.

Just south of the VFW on 95 is a road heading west that's Ave 12E. (MM 43?? If I remember correctly but don't quote me on that!) Take it through the farm fields, past the crop duster air strip and you'll come to an irrigation canal. At one point there is a choice of upper road or lower road, take the lower road. Soon you'll come up on a pond and the road will do a zig zag around it and head south. You'll then have the irrigation canal on your left. Down that stretch of irrigation canal levee you'll come to the end of the power lines coming in from the north and you'll see a small fenced area on your right. Turn right in that road and then a left in to the pond. There are 2 more entrances in case you miss the first one.

I don't know who told you that, but Class A RVs are often there. I know a guy who was in there a couple of weeks ago in a good sixed Class C. 7th usually has a lot of washboard, but the 12th Street route is usually rather smooth except for a patch next to the canal, which can have some bad washboard. The road around the pond itself can be lumpy and rutted, but its easily passable. Watch out for the sandy area in the southeast corner. Fortuna Pond can get crowded. And it gets locals coming to fish. If you don't need to worry about solar, there are nice spots among the trees on the south side. There are a variety of birds, the coyotes sometimes come in close, and there are lots of flies.

My friends and I are camped at one of the many areas along Ogilby Road. There's lots of room out here.

I'm in the Q parking lot now. White high top van, with black back doors. Oregon plates.
Where are you?
