So after years of reading about big oil, and pending money collapse and massive job loss; many will be prepping for the hoards of poor looking for food.

Yet we have a society of Amish that will be just fine. And they are not violent either. The Amish will become kings of a dystopian America, because they can function without electricity. Without gas powered tech. And they might just teach us all how to do that. If we are nice to them.

Some will say that they need oil too. But think they can make their own via corn oil and diesel powered corn oil machines if needed. Else they use the horse.

Big oil collapse does not mean the end. Just a different beginning. With different older tech.

I seriously doubt that the Amish will be just fine when the world collapses.

"Those who beat their swords into plowshares will wind up plowing for those that didn't"

Why would you expect the collapse of our civilization to be any different than the collapse of, say, Roman civilization in western europe?

Btw, I grew up on a farm that only got indoor plumbing and a tractor when I was in my teens. I had ample experience with outhouses and horse drawn farm equipment. (The horse drawn manure spreader was the one I hated the most.)

When I went off to college, I just laughed at the whole hippie back-to-the-land movement that was around at the time.

Romans depended upon slave death threat to prop up their civilization, with army. When army collapsed from no food the society collapsed.

But a good idea to consider. Could we get invaded by aggressive other countries wanting power?

Thus we need an army and government to prop up?

I would think that our own army would move into areas that produced food and insure that THEY got fed. And the people who produced the food would do as they were told, or else.

Then you get into the passive-aggressive-guerrilla -occupied-black market situation. Like----- Afghanistan or Iraq was. Not sure farms can run well with military threat.

We could end more like some of those suffering countries in Africa.
