3 Months Free in Missouri

If you play it right and don't mind moving around a little you an stay just over 3 months free in Missouri.  I'm thinking Spring after spending the winter in Arizona or maybe Fall just before you go to Arizona.  I live in Missouri so I wouldn't recommend spending a Summer there unless heat and humidity is your friend.

There are a bunch of free campsites in Missouri managed by the Department of Conservation - https://nature.mdc.mo.gov/discover-...name=&location[distance]=50&location[origin]=  They have little in the way of amenities but I think they are all free. 

 Kansas has a similar deal with state fishing lakes. http://ksoutdoors.com/KDWPT-Info/Lo...akes/Northeast-Region/Pottawatomie-Lake-No.-2  These have more amenities such as tables, fire rings and vault toilets - very nice!

 The midwest seems to get passed over by vandwellers but spring and fall are great for camping. We've spent a good bit of time in these states in the early fall and found that the campgrounds are almost empty, quiet and peaceful.

Currently in se iowa,  temps have been great. 70's for highs and 40's at night. With heat warnings in the sw and West  coast, going to stick here for a while. Free fishing here anyways, lol

I spent four weeks in Kansas City and had a great time. Lots of things to see there: the WW1 Museum is magnificent, the "Arabia" museum is very nice, there are some Civil War battle sites nearby (yes, really), and Harry Truman's house is not far away,

And on the other side of the state is St Louis, with also some very nice museums, and Cahokia right across the river in Indiana.

PS--I spent 20 years living in Florida. I think we probably have different ideas of "hot and humid".

Camp at Trail of Tears near Anna, IL.  Very nice camping there.  Near Prairie du Rocher in IL is Fort du Chartres.  Near that is the Pierre Menard mansion--a must see, even if it's just online.   If you visit these places on Google Earth, you can see if you want to go there.   Love Google Earth for checking a place out BEFORE going.   

Another fun thing to do is follow the river, taking roads as close to the Mississippi River as possible.  You find old towns and French architecture as the French settled originally all along the Mississippi.  Really interesting trek if you're a history buff.  The west side of the Mississippi is great too.  Here are a list of ferries, so you can cross back and forth and see both sides:  http://www.modot.org/othertransportation/waterways/waterwaysferrylistings.htm

Why take a bridge when a ferry will take you there with a ride over the Mississippi?
