Decided to post our project and progress. We are restoring and building a vintage road trip truck.

Current progress:
Rebuilt steering column 
Replaced cab mounts
Complete new charging system
New intake and carb 
New tires and wheels
We raised the truck back up
New "I" beams 
New shocks
New hoses
New radiatror 
New front and rear glass
New ignition 
Complete New Brake system
New Clutch and flywheel 
Purchased a period correct camper
New mirrors 
Purchased a rebuilt 390 motor with 5,000 miles on it (installing soon!)
Currently replacing wood paneling and fixing water damage in camper.

We are making progress but much much more to do!

390's are great engines, but are not quite the economizers I'd be looking for.

They guy I bought the truck from bent the original I beams to lower the truck and ruined them.  So I had to replace them.

ah I understand. I hate lowered trucks. well hate is so harsh, I strongly dislike is more PC. why anyone would take a work vehicle and make it useless for work is beyond me. I supposed they just heated the a-arms with an oxy-acetylene torch. that would ruin them. highdesertranger

Yep, that is what they did.  It ruined them.  It is sitting correct now though.

yep, I have seen many hack jobs by people trying lift and lower trucks. as soon as you said lowered and you had to replace the I-Beams, well 2+2 still equals 4. highdesertranger

Quite a nice restoration there. 

I have a friend who has a Pickup somewhere around that vintage.  He found a totaled Lincoln and bought
the 460 out of it.   I think it had a big 2bbl carb.   He claims he got better gas mileage with the larger motor.
His aim was to tow a 5th wheel camping trailer with his set up. 

But that should be a nice bug out when you get her done.
