Mine was on a 2005 Nissan Frontier.  The back of the tensoiner was open and the spring could be removed.  You could try to use spray grease and spray into the opening on the spring.  mine was not holding enough tension on the belt.

For eating protein I found protein digesting enzymes ( chewable) worked to speed up digestion.
