    4x4

Do I need a 4x4 truck to haul a truck camper? I know the weight is the most important, but my brother keeps telling me I need a 4wd to make sure I don't get stuck in the desert somewhere. I read Bob's blog about being prepared if you do get stuck even with 4wd, so.. is 4wd really that...

FOR WOMEN ONLY: Great Confidence Booster for the Solo Lady Traveler :)

I definitely agree with this article, and I've heard all the negative comments from friends and family: "someone might kidnap you" LOL!! "can't you take someone along" umm...NO "it's not safe for ladies to travel alone" should I dress like a guy and buy a fake beard then? Since I've started...

    Dog Friendly Stores

I don't like leaving my dog in the van for too long when I'm shopping, especially if it's hot out. Not that I shop at Bloomingdales lol, but I will take my pup to the Home Depot next time :) http://barkpost.com/dog-friendly-stores/

    What ya think?

I know for sure I would have to put money into this motorhome, but.... for this price is it worth it? Thanks for your opinions :) http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/rvs/4688939624.html

Anyone using Texas or New Mexico as the residency state?

I've been trying to get as much information on the states that are Rv'er friendly and warm in the winter. Also, I hope to buy a cheap parcel of land just to secure my residency since I'm on disability ( not trying to mess with the government ) . So far Texas and New Mexico seem to have some...

    Valley Fever?

Being a Michigander I never knew about this Valley Fever stuff. The first I heard about it was in a post about washing dishes with sand in the desert. I looked it up on a gov link but thought I'd get some info from experienced boondockers :) How common is it? My dog always has her nose to the...

    transmission flush/fluid change

Just got my transmission fluid changed in my van yesterday at Pennzoil lol! There wasn't any red tint left in the fluid when I bought it, my thoughts are if it takes a crap on me while I'm saving to leave in January, better now than in the middle of nowhere! :)

I'm freaking out about actually leaving!!!

I was just having a freak out session last night myself lol!!! I completely understand your worries, break downs, showers, the heat, the cold, not enough savings..yada yada... Then I thought. What the heck? I'll have all my fluids flushed and changed, new tires, tune up, and enough gear to...

    Milk Crates for bed

Thanks for the ideas :) I've got awhile yet to configure the inside, the van needs small repairs and tires. Guess I'll keep looking and see what's out there, gives me an excuse to wander around the second hand stores

    Milk Crates for bed

I have searched every second hand store in my area for months and even asked a few grocery stores if I could buy some of their milk crates that I saw in the cooler (of course they said no). At the Salvation Army I found 1...yes 1...and it was broken!! There is a store online that sells them...

    The Idea of Owning Land

Funny, I was just looking into buying maybe an acre for a 'homebase'. Then I realized what owning land really meant. Taxes and a right to be there, but you would have to stay within the rules of the city/county. And who's to say if SHTF I would really want to stay on that land anyway? Mobile...

    My dog and the heat

Since I'm on disability, I had my Doctor write a note stating that I needed my dog due to my disability. It's called an emotional support dog. There isn't any law on official paperwork/registration for support dogs or service dogs, they just have to be well behaved, not bark or disturb people...

    Dog safety in the van

Great ideas! Harness and a run/long leash in the van, awesome idea! I will definitely look into the window gate. She will be getting micro chipped next month for sure. Next on the list will be a seatbelt harness. Thanks for the ideas everyone! :)

    Dog safety in the van

So after losing my best buddy Bosco a few months ago, I became so lonely and lost after having him by my side for 9 yrs I decided to adopt!!! I found a 2ish yr. old female Yorkie/Silky Terrier. The owners didn't 'want' her anymore, they had 7 dogs! Said they got 2 litters out of her so I...

    Made my decision :D

Thanks again for all the kind words everyone :) Good to know people have had good experiences with the Chevy Venture. I did tons of research to see what kind of minivan to get within my price range. I didn't think anyone would want to buy seats , but heck I'll give it a try, the scrap yard...

    Made my decision :D

Thanks, miss the old dog terribly still, he loved camping and vandwelling. I will get another buddy when my van is ready and I have an emergency fund, but until then, my focus is the van :) It's a good distraction. I will definitely post pics, can't wait to brag about my new home :D I'll...

    Made my decision :D

After so many days, weeks, and months of going back and forth to what vehicle I wanted to get again, I bought a minivan! I decided that decent mpg's was most important and I would be pretty comfy in a minivan. Unfortunately my beloved best friend Bosco had to be put down last month due to...
