    Tiny houses Pima County Arizona

In Cochise county, just east of Pima county, you can build just about anything you want on your land.  In Cascabel, about 20 miles north of Benson, one fellow built the most adorable tiny house with a loft bedroom, nearly all out of found and/or hand crafted materials (river rock walls from...

    Soap foam hand dispenser?

I just bought this one from Amazon and am using it with Dr. Bonner's liquid soap.  According to comments, you can cut the soap with water (7 parts water to 1 part soap) and still get foam.  I cut ours about half and half.   They work great!

    Good idea, way too expensive

I purchased this Vivere Double hammock with space-saving steel stand on one of those special Deal of the Days at Amazon.   It comes in a carrying case, and packs up pretty small.   Very comfortable!

    Scorpions and Spiders

Bark scorpions are attracted to water, so are often found in bathrooms and near drains.  Keep your damp towels off the floor!

    Compressing Stored Clothing?

I've never used plastic bags to store clothes, but whenever I've traveled with very limited space, I roll my clothes up tightly, then stuff them in nylon stuff sacks.

    Welcome to Me...question w/chronic migraines

I've heard exactly the same thing.  I also know that lots of people (including me) have reported significant health improvements when they give up all wheat, not just those folks who test positive for gluten intolerance.

Faking Service Dogs Hurt Real SD Teams(The Law)

FWIW, all the dogs I've seen in stores have been very well behaved, and well in control.  Obviously, there's no way for me to know whether they are service dogs or not, and frankly, I don't care, since they are all very nice, well behaved dogs, and aren't bothering me or anyone else.  I suspect...

Faking Service Dogs Hurt Real SD Teams(The Law)

This is very interesting information.     This summer, I've noticed quite a few people bringing their small dogs into the grocery store while shopping, and I'm personally happy to see it, whether the dogs are SDs or not.   It's just too hot to risk leaving an animal in a car in the Phoenix...

    A "Murphy" Shower?

That's a cool idea.  I look forward to seeing you implement it.  Will you have to do anything special to ensure adequate ventilation?   My personal concern about showers in vans is: 1) amount of required space 2) amount of water used (both clean and gray) 3) ventilation Sounds as if you are...

Two people on $15 a day

Bagged is generally more expensive in rural locations, cheaper in cities.  In the Phoenix area, it's available everywhere, but cheapest at McDonalds, and next cheapest at grocery stores.   I love your idea of keeping a cooler just for ice water.  That's one of my essentials, too, and I've been...

Two people on $15 a day

Pork is my favorite meat.  I like to slice it into thin slivers, and stir fry it with vegetables and Chinese flavors (garlic, chili, soy sauce, rice wine, etc.) Quick and tasty!

Bed bug probem... and my solution... is it viable?

I brought bedbugs home from a California vacation a few years ago, and it was a hideous experience.  I could really understand people driven to drench themselves in insecticide or burn their house down.  (don't do this!) Heat is the perfect solution.  Unfortunately, it was March at the time...

    Towels towels towels

When I lived in China, the towels and summer clothing sold were always much thinner than American towels.  It took me a while to figure out that's because nobody there has a clothes dryer.   Right now, I live in Arizona, where it's so dry that it's hard to imagine the possibility of funky...

The reality of not having a home, and getting old.

My brother is a 56 year old computer programmer with a very niche job.  For the past ten years, he has been predicting that if/when they close his division, he will never work as a programmer again.  But in the meantime, he is able to work remotely, from his 40 acres in SE Arizona, and adores...

From the pan to the fire.

If you were willing to live in an SUV for 5 weeks, then you're plenty tough enough.   I know I will need more space than that.  I want to be able to stand upright and still clear the ceiling, and I'm planning to get a gym membership for showers, and make full use of potties I find while on the...

From the pan to the fire.

I originally went to China for only a year, but ended up staying two years.... then returned for another 4 months the year after that.  If I hadn't wanted an American education for my daughter, I might not have come back at all.  I sold my house to go, and put all my possessions into storage...

From the pan to the fire.

Apologies for quoting myself, but I'm not sure I expressed this very well, so let me give you a couple of examples from my life: 1)  When I was in college, I had a moped, and decided to drive it entirely around the San Francisco Bay area, over Easter week.  That's about a 500 mile ride.  I piled...

From the pan to the fire.

My nomadic life is still in the planning and dreaming phase, but here's what attracts me: 1) As much as I love having stuff, the older I get the more I feel that maybe a lot of my stuff really owns me.  I've spent the past two years helping my parents downsize. It's becoming real clear that I...

Might buy van in Denver/possible altitude complications?

I lived in the foothills west of Denver for 16 years.  Yes, windshields crack a lot, but not because of the altitude.  The road crews use gravel in the winter, not salt, and it's the gravel that flies up and cracks windshields.   I never experienced, or heard of rust damage there, but I did have...
