I may have chosen this new campsite poorly...

In my defense it was quite calm when I got here, and in my old spot even 20mph winds (per the weather service) were not an issue. But here... holy :poop:!!! Knock you down level, thrash my rig around, etc. I thought those mountains north of me would block the wind some, but I should have known better... they just make it more chaotic, which means insane gusts and whirlwinds on a periodic basis, not just during the day but 2 out of 5 nights so far!

It is good hiking though, and I have sight of the mountain with the cell towers, so good internet!

How has the wind in Quartzsite been lately?

Tucson 54 degrees just enough rain to wet the pavement, a partial rainbow, I/4” hail and sunny all in my 45 minute walk!

Is there somewhere to escape snow without wind?
It's usually not windy in the SW CO-river desert in winter... but sometimes it is. I've been here 6 weeks and only a couple days and nights were bad.

Usually the worst wind is from the north, and it's particularly annoying when you are getting thrashing gusts at night! Proper placement and orientation helps a lot. I used to park on a shelf inside a ravine that had basically a wall blocking north winds, and that worked great.

If I wasn't trying to get good cell service, I would have parked somewhere else... and if I was smart I would have oriented into the wind instead of broadside.:p:ROFLMAO:
