How soon will electric or hybrid vans/RVs be common?

All of it is irrelevant. Most middle or lower income households can't afford a new car anyways. Gas or electric.

Make cars affordable for the masses and we'll figure out how to work around the limitations.

Happy Camper makes a very compelling argument:

I've posted this here before regarding a 1974 design Porsche was experimenting with. A 20 year Car. (and it could be a Van today)
It was to be affordable, and capable of a long lifespan where the body & frame would be rust resistant/proof. The engine transmission could be easily replaced if necessary, Same with the interior which would range from basic to more luxurious. The Body would be made of ABS plastic (like many telephones in those years) and the frame of stainless steel tubing filled with urethane foam to dampen sound. Then fitted with a 200 K mile capable engine.

Some of us here may remember 1974 for the Recession (a bad one) in those years. Porsche's solution for a 20 year Car would offer a longer payment schedule so that the less affluent could more easily pay one of these off. $4400 in 1974 would be worth $27,500 now.

This was an overall rethinking of building Cars in those years. Now imagine one of these as a hybrid or an EV.

No need to delete the whole thread. Like a radio playing music or opinions we don't like, this thread has the equivalent of on-off and station dials. There HAVE been occasional posts with good information someone might want to refer to. But now, I can agree that we have reached a point where we are no longer trying to communicate ideas. Only express opinions.

^^^Seems like that is happening a lot! Which is good! Nothing wrong with voicing an opinion as long as a discussion follows based on facts that can be confirmed and learning occurs. I had been a fan of hydrogen fuel cells for a long time and assumed they would have been developed and prominent by now. From a practical standpoint I really liked the design that created a platform to which several different types of replacement bodies could be easily mounted. This discussion has enlightened me of some of the reasons that possibly they haven’t met my expectations. Thanks to all participating in this discussion!

I think he was referring to the post containing jokes that put down EV's. I'm not asking that it be deleted, but I didn't like it either.

People dedicate their lives to saving the planet. People risk their lives. And people have lost their lives.

Meanwhile we crack jokes sitting on our butts behind a keyboard.

I'm pro-EV and I thought the jokes were funny. People joke about serious things all the time. It's the /type/ of joke (e.g. putdowns) or the /timing/ (e.g. while someone is bawling their eyes out) that makes it wrong. Are we sure the jokes were a/the problem?

For me the jokes were ridiculous and not funny at all. But, climate change isn't funny to me.

Still, I'm not saying the post should be deleted.

Come on guys and gals. Read the posts, not just the replies.

And jokes are just that, jokes. When we get to the point where we can't joke about things for fear of offending someone, we've lost a huge component to the fabric of society.

Being able to laugh in hard times and about things we don't even agree with keeps people sane. People that get offended about everything tend to act on those feelings.

Comedy has been terrible for a while now because the mobs kept going after the comedians. I would love to get all of the easily offended people and put them in an island together. That would be a funny reality show.

Comedy is much more important than many think. And it always has been. Shutting down comedy you don't like it's more detrimental to us than any current 'crisis' we have going on at the moment.

Comic relief is just that. It gives everyone a chance to realize when the fight or flight reflex is getting close for some in the discussion and time for those in the discussion to consider the huge amount of information that has been presented. Minds take time to process information and sometimes change one’s opinions. It is all apart of self preservation. You all apparently have never walked up unexpectedly on a bunch of drunk coon hunters campfire in the middle of the night and been offered a drink. Sometimes it’s best to set quietly a minute and share a drink!

People use jokes to get around the rules regarding politics on this forum. I've seen it dozens of times. Most of the worst offenders were banned long ago... and not because of their jokes. Those "jokes" left me wondering if they were posted in support of climate change denial.

We have a category, or thread, here for funny stuff. Those who want to clown around should use it, IMHO. Rather than what happened here.

I've noticed that politics gets more loosely defined all the time... which is kinda weird. Joking and making fun of EVs surely isn't political, is it? I didn't see any politics in his post...

Joking around is normal for me. If people get offended I'm completely cool with it, within reason. Some people find things funny that I might not at the time. But it is what it is. I don't joke to get around rules. I joke because things are funny to me. People need to lighten up a little. Everything doesn't have to be something.

I don't set out to offend anyone. If someone takes issue with a joke, they can say so and we can figure it out. If I think their being offended is silly I'll say so. If I think their being offended is warranted, I apologize.

I don't confine my humor to a thread. Just like I don't in real life when talking in person. We can always agree to disagree. And if someone can't do that, they can kick rocks. And I'll continue to laugh at things because they are funny. Or release tension.

If I get banned for saying that do be it. I'll just think it's kinda funny.

When it comes to climate change I think a lot of it is humorous from many sides.

Can someone please tell me where the joke/humor forum is? I've looked before & again now & still didn't find one, I e-mail a joke to my friends daily, Thanks!

^^^I guess one reason I avoid people is I’m ignorant of a lot of things that they are not and having come from a place where there are many poorly educated have in the past made hurtful statements without knowing and been around people that didn’t care if they did. I hope to brighten up some before I pass and leave a better world but it’s looking doubtful. Let me know where that joke section is if you find it!

Occasional jokes are fine: In good taste, not personally or culturally offensive, makes you chuckle a bit, releases some stress, puts us in a lighter mood, brightens your day.

Not a problem.

tx2sturgis, can you tell me where the humor/joke forum is & also delete my joke post please? I never meant to offend anyone, Thanks!
