Towhee. I wanted a bird name since I love birds. So I am Towhee Birdstar to some.

Oddly I chose towhees originally since they are distinctively colored, talkative with unique voices, and around all winter when fewer birds are present in Oregon.

But that doesn't describe me at all. I am ordinary, quiet, and migrate south in the winter.

Hah!!!

this was such a great thread that I thought I would bump it so the newer members could add their short story.  so bump.  highdesertranger

The really sad thing is the number of people from a couple of years ago that are no longer here . . .

yes OP I thought of that too. but you can't dwell on what other people do. highdesertranger

Shortened version of first name plus first letter of last name.

I've been thinking of changing to "Screaming Geezer".  That comes from a name bestowed on a group of us that rode motorcycles together.  Only three of us left with only two still riding.

I have been using the same name on many forums for years. Both as a member, and later as a moderator.  I now stay out of the political forums.  They are just insane now!  I also leave the babysitting to Cindy.  She is so much nicer than I would be.   :dodgy:

I used to be a dumb ***, then I GotSmart.    I started college on 9~11~01 and have a BS degree in Communications.   :p  (Really!) My profile says it all.

I chose Baloo because he is one of my favorite cartoon characters. Also because the "bear necessities" just makes sense.

Goshawk because have been a nature watcher since ten years old. This particular species of hawk like the stealth of the woods, and is not very common. Used to call myself OFFROAD but that was too common and similar to many others online names. So changed it.

So Towee which species of Towee? There are a couple different ones

Long history as when I was a child, my mother said that her mother's people and she was called "dirty gypsies". They were immigrants from Hungary. Yeah, people are sometimes not nice. So, I had grown up being aware of the term. And, "snow" to denote where I came from originally, MI. Oddly, I one day googled for "SnowGypsy" and found that it was someone that traveled away from the snow only to eventually return which is something that I have always done over the years. I have been moving/relocating for over 40 years now to the point that no where is "home" which is another thread yet to be started.

The first part of my name comes from my kids and their friends when they were young. They all called me something different until one of my daughters friends started calling me Pappy and that stuck for the past 15 years.

The second parts come from a friend who is photographer specializing in cemetery statues(morbid but he is successful at it). He sent me a picture of a headstone and it is a quote from it.
"It isn't the date on either end that counts. But how they used their dash.
For that dash between the dates represents all the time they spent alive on this earth.
And now only those who loved them know what that little lines is worth."

Shortened version of my first name and first letter of last

Mine is just my initials and the year I was stationed to Fort Campbell, Kentucky.  Two things I'll never forget.

You passed the drug test with 100%!   ;)

When I was married (I am a widow) I was affectionately referred to as a cat. A Great Big beautiful Cat. So what else could my name be but the goddess of Bats. Bast

Yes there are about 5 species in North America but I didn't know that until I went to the desert and met a green tailed towhee and a Aberts towhee and a California towhee. In western Oregon we only have the spotted towhee. I don't know if I have met a canyon towhee.

I was thrilled to meet other species of towhee.

Thanks for appreciating the birds!

When I bought my Grumman Olson Kurbmaster, I knew it was a great platform for a build and it would last being alluminium, I also knew it was an Aero nightmare, and couldn't figure out why a company like Grumman which got famous from making alluminium aeroplanes could fabricate such a brick, I set about trying to improve this, I was getting 13 mpg, aiming for 18 six years on I get 14.5, I wanted it to fly, I was delusional call me crazy but I am still aiming for 18, not sure if I will ever get off the ground, that may be asking too much.
