Congratulations, I am so happy to hear things are going better for you.  Now you can go away if you want!

I heard from Rob. He went to pick up his trailer and one of the axles is busted. They will be welding it up on Monday so he had to go home without his camper. Everything else is thankfully done and working properly. His back is killing him so he will not be answering his phone tonight as he will be in bed but he will be back to the forum tomorrow.

His trip to Indiana is still on but delayed and he has no set date due to the axle repair. I will be heading up to Indiana when he gets going for a mini gtg and will finally get to meet Rob. We will also be meeting up with another marine friend of his so looks like three vets telling stories. I hope the weather isn't too terribly hot but we all have AC so it should be reasonably comfortable.

It seems like some drugs loose their potency with time. I took one of my dreaded Oxycontins and while it helped with some of the aches in my back it's nowhere near as powerful as I remember it. Tossed and turned for an hour and got up to get a drink.

As Cammallu wrote, my trailer was done, it looks nice, you can tell its been repaired as the sealants don't match but small price to pay. We got it all hooked up, weight distribution hitch looked great, everything was riding even. When I pulled forward the slightest tap on the brake locked them up. Seems someone wired them into the brake lights and not the controller. Got that fixed. He also installed my power jack, had to cut a bit to enlarge the jack hole. $50.00.

I had been there a couple of hours, 102 and rain. No air and very few places to sit. My Xanax was wearing off when he came in and said"we have a problem". The weld hold one of my axles was kaput, it was sliding side to side and a few inches front to back. Unsafe to drive. So I paid his helper to back in to a slot and unhitch that ungodly heavy weight distribution hitch. Best 20 i've spent in a while.

I talked to Cammalu and asked her to post a bit for me. She is a woman of her word.

As I told her, please don't thiink I am whining about this, things happen for a reason. At least it was caught before I lost an axle at highway speeds. And the scenery around N Texas and lower Oklahoma is breathtaking. Ha, but it felt good to get out. Just too damn hot.

Everyone Take Care and Thank you Cammillu

Now that you have used up most of your bad luck, it's time for the good luck to start kicking in.

Gunny
You're so right about that being the best place to be for it to decide to break loose !
Git 'er done and have a great (trouble free ) first trip !!!!

so you already paid for them to do work then you go to pick it up and they find another problem. then you got to pay them 20 bucks to park and unhook the trailer so they can repair it and charge you again. something is not right with this picture. highdesertranger

Those thoughts did cross my mind as well. After his synchronized lane changes and crash in California, I suppose it could have weakened the axle?
I dunno? Could have already been going? Maybe it had something to do with the squirrelyness in the beginning?

I could have parked and dropped the trailer, I was just hot, and my back was not doing well. I don't think he is trying to scam me, he has worked on one of our members trailer a few times. I guess time will tell.

I just want it done right and it to be safe to pull.

I think if it didn't cause the jackknife it could have been caused by it!
Hopefully they are checking the other side while they're under there ......

you just paid them once, you are going to pay them again, then they charge you to park it and unhook it, really. my whole point here is they charged you to park it and unhitch it. totally unacceptable. highdesertranger

I'll bet they didn't charge but rob offered because he was hot and his back was aching that he'd do anything to get out of unhitching. I get it!

sorry but I don't get it. if I was the owner of the shop and knew this guy just drove all this way to get his trailer then found it wasn't road worthy after you called him and said it was ready. I would have felt so bad I would have fixed it on the spot for a minimal charge. I surely would not have charged him for parking and unhitching. highdesertranger

It was the guy's helper that rob paid. I guess he could clarify.

I caught that and in my book that's even worse that the owner allowed this. totally unprofessional. if the owner is unaware of this then someone needs to bring this to their attention. highdesertranger

HDR you're kind of right, but he (the kid working there) didn't actually ask for anything. I very seldom let someone work for free. I was more interested in getting in my air conditioned truck and coming home. I did ask him to unhitch it but I offered the money. I would have given him a hundred not to lug the hitch around. Sort of a joke but not by much.

The good news is everything they worked on was repaired, fridge is working on propane, furnace lights and all the other odds and ends I wanted done.

There were people under it in Yuma, it wasn't broken then. Get it done Rob and get on the road.

RobndaHood you are a good guy but us military types tend to intimidate people sometimes. I have a feeling the shop owner was concerned about telling you he had found a problem and your possible response. I know when I state I want only what I want fixed, fixed, that is what they do because they know I won't pay more for things or can not pay for fixing additional things that I may or may not need. I have found it hard but I now ask they find and fix the problem not tell them what I need. Instead I tell them what I think I may need based on is happening and pay them to check it out. Your tip to the helper may pay off as your probably the only guy who has ever offered to pay him and he won't forget next time. It's nice to know there are people like you still around. Every one should get some exposure to the military so they would cut us some slack! I guess I'm trying to make nice in my old age to make up for being such a hard ass in my youth. Good luck and best wishes!

I don't know where or when it came unwelded. It has been pulled from Yuma to Ft Worth and then Oklahoma. After the spin out I should say. I would hate to think someone was BSing me so I will trust for now. I just know it needs to be done soon.
