I've got some Indian made stainless steel cookware. I really like it and it's smaller than comparable western stuff. I'm planning on adding them to my TT fit out. Cholula Chile and Lime is super good on fish.

Yeah I had fresh lime too... forgot to mention it ....lemons & limes are a staple in my house...
 
So, ANOTHER major league rainy day here. Barely got done w my morning walk and it started literally pouring water from the Heavens in impenetrable sheets and the sky went "Wizard of Oz" (love that movie) dark. Soooo not a great day for outdoor grilling (especially since the temp has dropped 20 degrees in 4 hours :D). I had to do a quick rethink on dinner which was originally going to be a grilled Churrasco style beef w chimichurri, roasted red potatoes, salad, and a couple of caipirinhas (since my mint is back in production). Wasn't gonna happen.

I still had to do something w the little beef top round roast but wasn't in the mood for RB sandwiches. What to do? I dug around and found a pack of German style wurst, harked back to my days (years) in Deutschland for a quick recipe and went for: Currywurst!!! For those of you who aren't familiar, Currywurst is an omnipresent German quick bite consisting of a sliced veal or pork sausage covered with a curry flavored tomato sauce and served w a crusty brotchen (roll). it originated in the hungry days after WWII when a barter swap of stuff followed by an accident begat one of the most beloved dishes in Germany. Often happens that way doesn't it?

Anyway, I could use the salad and the wheat roll I was planning on along w the red potatoes so it was a go. Made up the curry sauce (ketchup, curry powder, spices, onions) and pan grilled the sausages while quick roasting the Top Round in a 450 degree oven for 20 min and then dropping the temp to 400 for 15 min per pound till done juicy and rare, then let stand for 20 min to reabsorb juices (I'm going to chill it tonite and tomorrow I'll break out my vintage 70's Krupp meat slicer to slice thin for sandwiches and hot beef plates) the potatoes seasoned w oil, salt , pepper, and garlic powder roasted alongside.

Plated everything, curry sauce on top of the wurst, and it looked pretty good! An icy glass of bier and some crunchy cabbage salad rounded out everything. Not bad for a forced culinary detour!

I had a Sweet Kale Salad (from Costco)
It’s loaded with kale, Brussels sprouts, and all kinds of good things, and a yummy poppy seed dressing... I topped it off with chopped onions and a avocado...

Meat slicer is cheating. Can not fit one in a van. You have to slice up that roast by hand, or better yet pull it with forks.

I am getting into poaching meat these days, super tender. 

Tonight I had asian salad from the grocery store, and yes a snack of red jello.

Idk about that. I have one that folds up about the length and width of an old school laptop.

Super helpful cutting lettuce, onions, really thin tomato slices. I got it at goodwill some years ago. ~150 watt rating I believe.

Sorry Crofter, XERTYX's got you on this one. My slicer is a leftover from the 1970's during that bout of really high inflation. My folks got it for the princely sum of $32 (which was real money back then) at Monkey Ward's to slice our own sandwich meat. When my sister and I moved out, it went into the closet and I dug it out 20 years later and have been using it since. It breaks down to a 12.5" by 7.5" rectangle and measures 11" at it's highest stored point. After use, it breaks apart to get washed though it's a pain to clean the main unit since it can't be immersed for obvious reasons. Aside from that, a very fine piece of German engineering (what can u expect from a company that supplied the German war machine in WW2 :rolleyes: ) Sliced that roast beef nice and thin and it's ready for sandwiches and gravy.

I powered it through one of the AC plugs on my GOLAB - 300w pure sine current. Did great! It pulled a max of 121w on start up and between 61 and 90w during operation depending on the resistance the blade was getting. After 15 min of on and off cutting it left the power unit w 98% of charge. Very good for nomad power parameters. The unit is just short of 50 years old -not sure you can even buy one anymore but I'm glad I've got it.

Tonight, I'm doing a one casserole meal of pork chops, onions, potatoes, and apples, on a bed of sauerkraut covered in thick cut bacon and seasoned w a Serbian Pork Spice which I got from an old Frugal Gourmet cookbook. I used to love that guy and his shows. isn't it sad he turned out to be a CREEP??? - see below. We'll see how it turns out. BTW - on the subject of inflation, if you want to see what the actual inflation rate is in our economy check out shadowstats.com . the economist who runs it just uses what the U.S. Government used to use before the 70's to measure inflation. It's eye opening (not that you already didn't know)...

Once dinner comes out of the oven I'll throw a pix up. Right now I can't post any for some reason...

Made chicken broth.from leftover bones. ...pretty tasty with dill seasoning....

I'll have to look for my slicer when I'm mobile again, it's on my family property. I got it at goodwill on my birthday a few years ago. It was priced at $12 and I was kicking the tires.

I decided to flirt with the cashier to try my luck and ask for a discount and I guess I'm not that old after all. She rang it up for $3 & then 50% off. XD
 
I wanted a little something post dinner. I looked around thru the cabinets for something. Anything. But nothing looked good. Then I started thinking maybe theres cocoa powder.

I found none. But I did find some packages of cocoa mix. Then in the fridge I found some chocolate syrup, and pure vanilla extract. 

The cocoa mix said to use 6-8oz of water. I decided to use 2 packs.

Double Mocha Latte : My Mocha Magnum Opus

1¾ cup whole milk
¼ cup water
1 TBSP light brown sugar
Several dashes of cinnamon 
2 Tsp pure vanilla extract 
2 or more to taste Tsp instant coffee
2 packets of instant cocoa mix
Chocolate syrup as desired 

Heat milk and water in a sauce pan with cinnamon and brown sugar stirring to simmer. Add cocoa mix and stir until dissolved, add chocolate syrup and stir. When it's all homogeneous kill the heat. Add vanilla extract and stir. Add the coffee and stir. Serve and enjoy.

here's another way to make "latte" :

1 OR 2 Tablespoons of instant coffee ( i love Taster's Choice )
1 teaspoon of sugar (or as much as you like)

put it in a coffee cup
add a FEW drops of water ...just to slightly moisten...not too much !

use a blender (just one beater) to WHIP IT UP TILL STIFF & FROTHY & THICK

HEAT whole milk until frothy/foamy 

Get a empty second cup
put a teaspoon of the whipped coffee inside 
add the hot frothy milk & stir

save the rest of the whipped coffee & refrigerate until next time....

This is very decadent  :heart:
 
I read about this type of recipe last summer deep into the pandemic when millions Americans for the first time in 30 years or so were forced to cook for themselves. And their pantries were running dry.

Id love to try it, but I havent yet. If there could possibly be an upside to the horrible year the world had I hope that generations of Americans learn to experiment in the kitchen again.

My mom taught me to cook. And sew. Not very manly some would say. Mountain men knew how to sew. Try calling grizzly Adams a sissy, see how far that gets you. :p
 
A very nice Indian lady taught me how to make it...

I love it when men know how to cook & stuff... a guy showed me some knitting tricks and tips when I was in high school even !!!   

It’s wonderful to be well rounded...lol
