way funny... for whatever reason i thought of this thread again and wanted to add that (Like Iggy's comment above) I too have little need for _much light_ during the evenings if i'm on my eReader...in my case a Kindle PaperWhite...i luv that thing. great for reading in high-noon-sunlight or in complete darkness. and easily a dozen hours or more of reading pleasure per charge.

My eyes get fatigued very quickly reading a bright screen in dark surroundings (age related?), so I need a background light to read for any length of time. -- Spiff

If you have an opportunity to check out a Kindle PaperWhite you might be pleasantly surprised. It has a very smooth variable screen brightness. I'm 56 and can read comfortable (making proper screen adjustments) for many hours in any light.

I use a string of 60 white led Christmas lights plugged into an inverter. Got them on sale after Christmas a few years ago. They actually provide quite a bit of light and were only nine bucks.

Same with me. Just had both eyes done in Cataract surgery - eyesight is MUCH improved! I can shoot open sights again, and read road signs significantly further down the road. BUT a downside is being more 'light sensitive'. Bright light bothers me, as does the dimmer blueish-white LED light. Cannot use a computer screen without backlight too long either.

LeeRevell, for you or anyone w/the problem you describe use one or more red LED lights say as a nitelite in bathroom.
This will let you see clearly to get around w/out blinding you. Especially if your up at nite for just a few minutes.
