I'm not into changing AA and AAA batteries, Nimh Nicad or Alkaline. Energy is wasted charging such batteries, and disposable Alkaline batteries are just a toxic ongoing expense the world would be better off without, in my opinion.
I like my lighting to run off my 12volts DC and have acquired many aftermarket LED bulbs for some incandescent fixtures.
I was seeking white light, not cool blue, and a lot of it.
While LEDS are vastly improved over what was available just 5 years ago, there is still a ways to go, but for now I am satisfied with both output and color, and have about 2 dozen t10 LED bulbs I will likely never use again.
My latest acquisitions, I decided to try a well known name brand LED bulb. This one actually is tested to meet DOT Specifications in Certain vehicles in tail lights or running lights. The use of LED bulbs in incandescent housings for exterior lighting is an issue as they usually do not improve visibility to other drivers, and are illegal, as vehicle lighting is a safety issue. Another topic entirely.
Anyway these Phillips LED's are a pleasant 4000K light color and not as bright as my brightest LED's, but more than adequate for my current uses.

I've used other warm white LED's but the light color seemed too artificial, but these are more pleasing to my eye.
I still occasionally want just obscene amounts of light when doing some tasks, and find my Nitecore HC50 headlamp has spoiled me as to what constitutes an Obscene amount of light, aimed where needed.
I saw these LED running lights for 10$ on Amazon and had to try them out. They are very bright, work nicely on a PWM dimmer, but are far too blue for my tastes. Draw about 0.6 amps at full tilt, and this varies with voltage, higher voltage, more light, more amp draw.
I might mount these somewhere on my ceiling, as indirect lighting, but they are much too bright to my Eye if the light emitting surface is exposed to one's eye.

While 0.6 amps (for both together) is a fair amount of electrical consumption, these might be a viable option for some who also occasionally want a lot of light and do not mind a bluish tint.
My favorite nighttime lighting are CREE based T20 led mounted into a 99 cent store gooseneck light. I like being able to aim the light where needed, for task lighting, or ambient lighting. While the T20 reverse light bulbs I am using are nice and white, I ordered two more from same seller and the product which arrived was more blue, drew more amps for not significantly more light output, and I doubt I will use them. I tried mounting 2 into a gooseneck but for whatever reason when wired in parallel, are not making much light at all.
I am also a fan of red LED rope lighting. and have 12 feet of it spread around in different parts of my interior. I find that if I need to turn on a light at night, this red LED allows me to fall back asleep easier than if i were to turn on a white light. Also the red LED is much less noticeable if some light were to leak around my curtains in a stealth required setting.
I like the extreme seeming night vision too after sitting in the red diffuse pool of light, then stepping outside.
