^ made me laugh.
I think it becomes less important the smaller the abode is, I have never bumped my head in my low top van and having only a 2x6' area of open space(where the dogs sleep so it's not really "open") I don't see making my van 2 feet taller doing much good, knowing me it would be worse because I would have floor to ceiling storage and not be able to reach the higher items without standing up which even at my age is not an easy task. While with my low top I can reach almost everything except my pantry while sitting in my bed.
Now a dodge maxi is another story. Those things are too big to not have enough height to walk, for me atleast. I have bumped my head in RVs with 6'+ ceilings but not full height doors, apparently that's even a problem for full timers as I've see more than a few where they had to add padding,  so if I was to have standing height inside I would also want full height doors too like a sprinter.

It's not like you are going to walking around that small space anyways so why pay extra for something that's more of a nuisance that beneficial? Get a BedRug, http://amzn.to/1dEtGNU, like I have for my chevy express van, which will allows you to comfortably move around the cabin on your knees just fine, no need to crawl. They make the bedrug for all different trucks and vans, easy install. I did a video on it. It's not really carpet but rather the same material as speaker carpet which is dam near indestructible, bleach-proof, gasoline-prood, stay resistant, etc. Also, has a nice rubber backing that is molded to fit into the ribs of the floor to make a level comfortable surface. I love my bedbug and I feel it's worth every cent. You can even flush it out with a hose if you want. I had the same dilemma as you and realized that it would be a waste of money to spend extra money for a taller van to stand up when you will be sitting or laying in the van most of the time anyways, I mean who paces back and forth in that small space anyways? lol Here is the video I did on the bedbug:

I actually kind of like those...  I just get passenger vans that are already carpeted and finished on the interior, but that would be a nice option if you're starting with barre metal floors.  I like it a lot better than all of the insulation schemes.

Even in my low top maxi van, if I pull out the couch into a double bed, I have practically no floor space.  I actually found it surprisingly easy to adapt to a low top van.

Quote from AlmostThere: "I would ever so much love to be young, agile and/or without bad knees (I'd take any one of the three... :D ).

Without knee pads I simply can not kneel at all, let along move around on my knees - a shattered knee cap will kind of do that to you.

I also find it difficult to get up and down off the floor.

Each of us has there own different lifestyle, uses of their van and reasons for needing different variations. Some are full time living IN their van, some part-time living out of their van. There is no on solution fits all here."

X2.  I'm old, too hurt from previous injuries and just too FAT to comfortablpy bend over and scoot around on the floor.  Now before you say "that's your problem, it was your choice to eat so much" I want the record to state that I have a genetic mutation of the F chromosome that requires me to attack buffet restaurant lines...

Anyway, I appreciate being able to stand or nearly stand, and would really enjoy having a 6 foot headroom van.  Mine is about 66", forcing me to duck slightly, but it's wayyyyy better, "I say wayyyyy better" than the std 54" in a regular low top.  (Insert Foghorn Leghorn the rooster from the 60's cartoons talking). If you don't know who that was, I pity you.

Anyways, I put up with the lack of parking garage accessibility and no automatic car washes to be having some comfort. YMMV and like the reply above, I'd suuuure like to be 25, slim and even half as wonderful as I am again!

Ditto with AT.  Crawling on knees is NOT happening for this old dawg.  Bad knees, bad back, no fun.  Floor padding is NOT an issue.

Yep, Lee R and I feel the same... Oh, and the "feelings" get worse each year... :p

I have to walk hunched over a bit in my E150 midtop, but it's much better than the older E150 cargo I inherited from Dad.  I am looking for a rolling chair/stool to use, but that won't really be an option til I replace the old dusty carpet with some vinyl flooring.  My back doesn't allow me to stand hunched over for long.
And Dusty, while I am trying to lose some of my poundage, I think if an "All you can eat" Buffet restaurant saw us both coming, they'd lock the doors!  :D

Got that right Lee... Mutt and Jeff, but big Mutt and Jeff...

What's this about a "Dusty" carpet, anyway?

Wouldn't be without a high top. Walk up door is nice also.

"To each his/her own." Personally, I love my converted chevy express van and do just fine walking on my knees but I can understand the need to stand if someone had knee troubles. For me, my main priority is to keep my van looking stealth.
