Would any of you buy a one yr old Duracell Ultra Deep Cycle 75Ah battery... seller says it was used with trolling motor 3 times over a year. No charging issues and holds charge. He's asking $40... found battery new for $103

If you need just one battery and your load will be less than 50% of the 75 A/Hr then it’s a good deal. If you are adding a battery to your existing bank then this would not be a good choice as generally people start with fresh batteries when building a bank.

I have no batteries and will only be using for led lights and maxxair fan for now. Will be using ice chest for local shake down trips while saving money for 12v fridge and two 100 ah batteries before hitting the road full time. Have one 100 watt solar panel (will be adding second) to charge battery when sun shines.

Any used battery purchase is taking a chance.  For that matter, any 12 volt "deep cycle" is taking a chance.  If it was actually recharged after each use it should be fine to start with.  If you make a mistake and ruin your first battery, a common problem, the learning tuition is only $40.

It is my opinion based on my experience that regular starter batteries can be cycled to a 5% depth of discharge, occasionally 10%, without reducing the battery life.  The 50% recommendation is for golf cart batteries.  I limit discharge of my 75 amp hour 12 volt battery to 10% regularly and rarely twice that.  For a MaxxFan, some leds and a phone charge that's not a problem.  A 100 watt panel is good to recharge that.

Thanks for the responses... I'm going to pass and save another 2 weeks and buy the first 100ah battery.

I believe the battery he is talking about is a 12v true deep cycle. One year of use is enough time to damage a battery. I'd check the battery knowledge of the seller and the manufactured on date and make a decision based on that including whether I believed the seller.

No, I would not buy a used trolling motor battery, especially one that small.. They are not true deep cycle batteries.
