Sounds like you have pretty much decided on a rig. Before you get it, take a look at some of the shasta campers and the like. I think that little truck can pull one up to about 16' or so. I think there is even one on this sight.

Personally if you have a reliable vehical, I would say o everything to keep using that one rather than stepping in to something (especially used and from a dealer)

as a 55 year old female, I have gone from travel trailers with my parents as a child to tents and currently in a minivan for short periods of time. I will be looking for a Class C. They provide bathrooms, safety and much cheaper than the smaller Class Bs.
I love the old campers, am doing a partial (30 percent or more to date) rebuild. From your other posts it sounds like you are ready to fly soon. Get something closer to being ready to go. That Scotty, appeals to me but I have been in that particular model/year-I think-while searching for a camper. It is very small. Wouldn't work with all your kittys. The price sounds high but these vintage go for a lot when fixed up. My blog below has some of what I'm going thru to get my Shasta Little Sanitee on the road. I don't mind towing or backing or the other difficulties with a trailer, such as maybe hooking up alone at night etc. This forum is wonderful in that you can learn by a lot of other peoples successes and failures. My humble opinion, bigger is better when going thru the mountains, especially towing or loaded. I see the men and probably women here in vans often do some upgrading to shocks and other stuff to their vans. Why can't you tow with the durango or modify it? If you tow stealth would be an issue.

Dragonfly

Hey,you may want to look at something like this: http://web.mac.com/paleotool/Paleotool/Vardo.html This is what I am wanting to build or similar.
Oh I meant for pulling behind a small pick-up. Yeah this would NEVER work for me.
http://www.fiberglass-rv-4sale.com/node This site is good, it publicizes scams which happen a lot with good trailers. These are usually expensive even used and are snapped up fast. "If I knew now what I didn't know then....." Big guy and I went and looked at a gooseneck Scamp. Great buy but my 2500 HD Siverado was too big to pull it and my dad just wouldn't trade me his new Tacoma. Dragonfly

There isn't a fifth wheel that a 2000 4cly Nissan Frontier can haul. If I remember correctly, as I used to have an Xterra, his towing capacity is just over 1000lbs. Good luck towing anything bigger than a popup or tear drop. Uhaul wont even rent him anything but their smallest trailer and it is too heavy when loaded.

Not necessarily. Look at "scamp" trailers. They are lightweight fiberglass trailers that come in 13,16 and 19' fifth wheel configurations.

Also, there is a video of a vw beetle from the 70's that is pulling and for lack of a better word, dancing with a fifth wheel camper that attaches to the car by the sunroof

Just food for thought.
I personally have a small camper (69 Shasta 14') for more than one, tent gear for 6-8, and the van for me to 'escape' in by myself. I prefer having the engine separate from the living quarters just in case of a major malfunction with either doesn't hinder the use of the other. Plus, it's a pain to break down and pack up camp every time you need water or ice or whatever. But all methods have thier plluses and minus. It is really your own choice.

@ Les, around here, if you want a Scamp, Casita or other decent fiberglass trailer that comes up, you better be ready to jump on it with cash in hand. They go fast. We were ready to buy the 19 ft Scamp 5th wheel in KY until I did some measurements and called the Scamp manufacturer. Sometimes I think we (me) just need to be happy with what we have and make do.
@Bob What a free feeling you must have now.
Dragonfly
Bob144,

I saw on your blog that you have decided to keep your roadworthy F-250 4x4 and get a small trailer that you can customize to your liking.

I think this is a smart move for you right now ... then take your time to decide what else might work for you.

Good luck,
Bob

PS- My Google account wouldn't allow me to respond on your blog.
