Plan on heading out from Central Florida with Utah as the destination. We only have 3 weeks to make the entire trip and back.
We want to spend as much time as possible seeing Utah but would still like a scenic route to get there, one that would allow as much free places to stay as possible. We will probably beat the pavement using Interstates on the return trip.

Suggestions are welcomed......

Try roadtrippers.com You can request avoid interstates and it will show you all the sights and places to eat and camp as well. It gives mileage between stops and time estimates as well. All free which is the best part.

When? The time of the year is important.

One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen is the Rhododendron Gardens in bloom at Roan Mountain on the Tennessee, North Carolina borders. They peak in mid-June.

The Blue Ridge Highway is hard to beat!

In mid-July Colorado explodes with Wildflowers!! Crested Butte is one of my favorites.

If you're going that far you MUST drive Highway 550 "the Million Dollar Highway" from Durango, Co to Ridgeway, CO. Gorgeous!
