You might want to post a new thread about finding a hiking partner for the Arches. Sounds like a neat experience.

Driving 10,000 miles solo through a scarcely populated area is daunting to me as well.

Thanks wayne.  It's ok, I don't need to post a new thread for a little thing like that.  I can always just watch the beginning of the moon rise and leave before it gets too dark.

Speak of something neat, I'll be going to Yosemite to see the Firefall in a couple of weeks.  I've seen it twice before.  It is one of the most spectacular scenes in all the NPs I've visited.  So happy there is enough snow for it to occur this year .

I am embarrassed to say I did not make it.  After a long hard hesitation I did not think I was able to make the 10,000 mile drive by myself.  I still want to go to Alaska but probably will have to fly there and rent a car.

Meanwhile, I am looking for people to hike with from the Delicate Arch to the parking lot after dark Mid May.  I am hoping to go there to see the moonrise over the arch.  I don't want to get lost on the trail in the dark. l've reserved Devil's Garden Campground in Arches NP from 5/16-5/19, you are welcome to share the site if you can help me on the hike back.

It's a toughie! I imagine I will have my doubts. Beside bears and dogs my big worry is rain, rain, rain...

I have to go to the East Coast this Spring and then up to Alaska. It might be a bit much. We shall see.

I was inspired by the Sour Toe Cocktail in Dawson, however. :)

I lived in Whitehorse in the early eighties to the mid eighties 5 years, I go up there every few years, to feel the north and visit with old friends. I don’ t know how many times I have driven the Stewart or the Alaska highway, several times in all seasons. Every time I do, I often wonder why I didn’t spend more time just hanging out along the way not so much in winter but during the summer it is such a great place, loads of good fishing, loads of real nice camp spots, I always seem to drive a lot of the time rather than sit for a few days, Maybe next time. Whoever mentioned going to Skagway as a detour, good idea interesting place, it is worth going into Atlin as well if you have an extra day or two. I have spent a lot of time there I used to have a cabin outside of Atlin the lake is very nice with loads of campsites on the way in and around the lake, great fishing. They have a music festival in the summer.

I've gone up twice - and still have the desire to make another trip up.  Each time I go up, I take about three weeks to get through Canada and there is still so much to see and do.
