Sheet Far Bri.
Never thought I'd even think about a sidecar until now.
I'm currently riding a 1980 Honda 900C.
Any hints and tips for a beginner.

Hey Lampy, your 900 may be a perfect tug for a sidecar....I nearly bought one before I bought my Oldwing. Try to find out as much as you can by reading, researching and talking to folks who ride them.

Yahoo groups has a couple good groups....USCAwest.....and SCT (sidecar talk) just search for them.

We have a national club called the United SideCar Association..... at sidecar.com .....well worth joining to get the only magazine in the country on sidecaring ....it is called the "Sidecarist".

There is another German Sidecar magazine called "International Sidecar Traveller" but it is mostly in German and very expensive...excellent mag if you can afford it and read German....it really is an awesome mag and the publisher, Martin Franitza and his wife are serious sidecarists...

http://wodka-murmansk.over-blog.com...ecar-magazine-sidecar-traveller-92759533.html

There is a thread on AdvRider for hacks too....

http://www.advrider.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=56

Have fun....

Yes, that is a sweet rig Pikachu. The only problem for me is that the trailer he uses is as rare as hens teeth to find used and is about $4K new...

That is one more thing I will say Lampy....it is an expensive habit to pick up. I absolutely love them and I don't think I would ever go back to two wheels except on my tiddler bike, but they end up expensive to get them right. Almost no way to get in cheap...and if you do, you will need to mount the hack at least $400, want to change the steering: $500 to $700, I run an auto wheel on the rear to conserve tires and it cost me $400 and the list goes on...I must have $5K to $7k in that old ratter I have and while it runs like a watch and rides true as a train, I could never get anywhere near that much out of it.

Sometimes the best way to get into one is to buy one already built when the guy/gal wants to trade up....you can get some excellent deals that way...
Jez, when I get on a roll I blab for hours...esp. about hacking...."once you hack, you never go back"!
Bri

WOW and thanks Brian on a few levels, first being a great pictorial of some interesting sidecars and ideas... But a really cool web site also, I have never heard of it before and definitely bookmarked for further exploring...

Absolutely my pleasure Steve...glad you enjoyed the site...one of my favorite....
Bri

I never knew that a camping sidecar could be so expensive. As much as I like that setup $4K is a bit much to spend all the same. Now if I were a a serious motorcycle camper and had the money I'd be tempted to buy that type sidecar.

I've ridden motorcycles many years but have never ridden a bike with a sidecar. It would be interesting to see how a bike with a sidecar would handle. I've seen some bikes with sidecars that are "hinged" that lean with the bike in turns. By the same token, the vast majority of bikes with sidecars I've seen are "fixed" and keep the bike & sidecar from leaning.

Pikachu...I quoted more for a fully equipped Mini-mate trailer...actually the base model is only $2800.00 and if you were to get with the manufacturer, he would prolly sell just the tub and tent for less yet....

http://www.motorcycletrailerstore.c...product_info&cPath=91&products_id=190

That is what the builder of the photo you showed did...he just mounted a tub and tent on a sidecar frame....

The builder/owner of the rig in your photo posts on AdvRider forum...his photos are on there too.

Yes, riding a combination is more like riding a four wheeler ATV...or a three wheel ATC....

Bri

There is a guy in my town who lives in a small Toyota class C camper and tows a trailer with a Vespa scooter with a small sidecar. Cute little oufit...
Bri

I'm not sure so much about the military sidecars, but I could sure go for one of those huge machine guns on the roof of my van. That would let folks know not to mess with me. Not too stealthy, tho.....

Thanks for a really interesting post/link!
