So what steps and tips do the RV livers recommend for never turning into Aqualung?

If you do not know what I mean. Listen to the lyrics of of the Jethro Tull song some time. Basically the homeless wandering creepy guy.

In the mythology of GAME OF THRONES he is the STRANGER demi-god. Someone who is creepy, and not of your social cast. For all those more modern folks who never listened to Jethro Tull.

1) Keep yourself clean smelling, and actually clean. Use soap and water daily, and aggressively. For you appearance and your health. Since washing my hands aggressively I stopped having colds.

2) Keep the beard, and the facial hair really short. Battery operated beard trimmer at wallmart is $15. will last you a couple years, if you keep it out of humidity. Use it. and you could shave or do other facial hair landscaping.

For the young ones --

And --- why not ---

yah you seem to have a distorted view of people on the road as far as cleanliness... as for Jethro Tull well i am no mind reader but a songs influence on the mind seems to be a young mans mistake... songs are just songs...

I don't think it's as much of an issue as some think it might be.

That said, proper hygiene is very important when you are living in tight quarters.

You would like to think that everybody kinda knows this stuff. I mean, don't envision anyone reading your post and saying, "Hey a shower. That's a brilliant idea! Why didn't I think of that" (But then again, you never know ;&gt)
That being said though, the "creepy" part is something that I think can become a problem for a person (the analogous song I think of to "Aqualung" is the Doors "When you're Strange" ). A person who was not mentally healthy before van dwelling may become worse for the experience. I know in my case, where I suffered the loss of my wife before van dwelling, I felt periods of severe loneliness. You do have to have a certain mental strength to endure some degree of isolation and also a bit of pluck/ingenuity to be in contact with and do things with others. In my case, I've found that most of my friends really don't care if I live in a van and most think it is kinda cool. This group too has been a great source of support and inspiration to me. Other than that, I've no easy advice to dispense in this regard, except to use your freedom to explore what you want to do and become active in the world.

Why would living in a van change your basic hygiene habits???

Because we all know that once you start living in a van, that's only one step away from becoming an anti-social, anti-government, anti-city, half-crazed mountain man that has no access to a shower or soap.

think that was a movie with Jonny Depp as the lead. Barber killed people in dickens london, and dumped the bodies in the river below the shop.
