Well just spent my second night out and about and it feels so good! I am currently in a rest area, I have been at this one before, nice clean rest stop, semi country it's about 15miles from Diane's home, I truly believe the grounds keeper lives here. two spots down there is a cool little "searcher" RV, nice small class c, someday I may want something bigger than "Moby". behind me is a sleeper in a sedan watching a DVD played and just leaning back I guess just catching some down time, as he doesn't fit the bill for a full or part time live in traveler, maybe a salesman.

As with most area's trucks are also here, their engines idling like a finely tuned chorus.... I shudda been a trucker! earn money and travel? sounds good but me and timelines? YUCK! This isn't a pet friendly rest stop as the area they want you to walk you pets is kind dangerous it's between the trucks and car area, kinda scares me for young ones walking their pets with zipping trucks on one side and cars on the other.

Well I got my 5 hours of sleep and it's to early to really get up and venture into the world so here I am in my new virtual house telling ya all about my night and soon to be day. It's 4:30am ish, ear buds in listening to froggy101 my favorite country station. My traveling cohorts are Raven a 13 year old Patterdale terrier, think solid colored Jack Russell, Eve an off the wall Australian Cattle dog (or for you solid midwestern's you may call her a heeler), and my new acquire-e is a small pit bull named Chili, left behind my a tenant near my shop and I took her in and have had her two months, really didn't want to take her on as two traveling buddies are really enough but she's a trouble soul and not really " family pet" material, little to no training, high prey drive and hates people of color. "CHILLS" as I call her from time to time will be a story all her own, and some day I will write more about them.

Back to this rest stop as ya all know it's a holiday weekend and a Methodist church group has been here ALL night offering FREE coffee, tea, Hot Chocolate, hot dogs, cookies, fruit! and dog biscuits! I truly love people! although at time I get frustrated with people, but these folks are amazing! Thank you Lord! I will take a picture of them to post. I got 5 hot dogs and a banana and left a 10 dollar donation, I know it's more than what it would have cost, but I am so taken back by their dedication, I had to.

I need to give "Moby" a bath is on my today's to do list, and a good interior cleaning as pets come with their built on fur coats.... I really am temped to shave Eve bald, I swear she is part yak. I shaved Raven last week and her wirey back hair is now where to be found lately!... normally the shotgun seat is covered with signs of her status as pack brat top bitch! Even at 13 she's is still tough as ever. Also on the to do list is visit my horse Jewel , she's about a 45 minute northeast-ish drive from Diane's home.

Switching gears, I was going to watch an episode of "drop dead diva" on amazon but it hasn't been posted yet , or I am wrong what day it airs. I do have a hulu account, best 7.99 a month spent, I think way better than netflix,.....tried to grab a rebbox dvd but nothing struck my fancy to rent.

There is no wifi here so I am logged on with my verizon 4g modem, pricey but I hate being without internet and 50.00 gives only 5g of bandwidth enough to catch a few shows a month and do my other things, at my LI home base I have cable online, a shop bundle for phone, cable (but I don't have a tv) and internet for 85.00... my verizon phone line only was 65.00 so the extra 20 was worth it for the internet. My next lap top will have illuminated keys! I swear I do have a couple of battery operated lights above my "bed" so I can see the keyboard, but If I have an illuminated keyboard I could be in almost total darkness.

It's pushing 5 am and the sun will start rising soon, I love being awake for the start of the day. The weather forecast is for more rain, what a bummer as I wanted to hit some yard sales! A song is playing that I don't know the name of it but this lyric, is great " I am alive and I'm free who wouldn't want to be me?!".......damn life is good today! enjoy all happy labor day weekend to all that have a such a holiday to celebrate!

Oh man! I wish it was a little later, "Momma's in the graveyard papa's in the pen" would be BLASTING! sick song but I love the melody! ....

So glad your having fun =) I was worried about taking one travel companion, my kitty Hallo, it is nice to hear about people who have more than one so I definitely know it is possible =) Take care and have a wonderful holiday HuggZ

I like the Verizon 4G modem - we have no home internet connection. We never use up the data limit, since we don't watch movies. Download a good book, read the news, play Scrabble...

Enjoy the quiet time and the good feeling.

I have one of those little LED reading lights (it's a clip on and has a long wire neck that can be twisted anyway you like.) It gives out only a small amount of light, not enough for reading, and the batteries last a very long time. We use it a lot when we need just a tiny amount of light. It could be clipped on your keyboard. Wally has them in the book section.

Enjoy your freedom AutumnNomad. Sounds like fun. Rae

Due to my little dog Raven, who escaped my van (and was found) when I asked my friends son to roll up the windows for me, but the delay meant I wasnt going to get back to my shop in time for me to open, so I am going to enjoy one day of true R and R ...

The morning started with me falling or rolling off my bed! with a full bladder, changed clothes and walked the dogs. I am in the same area I was two days ago just on the other side of the road. Nice little rest area. There is Navyish blue what looks like an older sprinter parked in the far corner, windows all dark, rooftop A/C ....stealth camping...lol.... I purchased a vending machine Hot Chocolate, and a decent cheese danish for breakfast. I laid on my little bed this morning and did not want to move, I was so enjoying the moment. this is semi country and it's a very quiet rest stop. This side has woods and some picnic tables. the other side is a little smaller, but still feel very safe here. The weather aside from the daytime rain has been perfect sleeping weather (60ish) snuggled in a sleeping bag.... it's great.

I have decided that I will need a toilet of some kind as my body is very unforgiving when it comes to the call of nature. It basically says You have to go NOW, right now!
No warning what so ever.

SO I have been thinking about stealth. Things people notice about your vehicle that makes them remember you, or makes you stand out. I have a very popular green 1997 ford 150 conversion, it is as is still. things like solar panels and a roof top AC will make it look different, I am not sure if it would make it look different enough to me noticeable or remember~able. but it will make it look different than others, just not sure how much.

I cant wait to live this life 24 /7 , I hate the pressure of knowing I have to go here or there, I like going where the wind takes me.... oh well I will enjoy today at least.

Sounds very relaxing... I need some of that R&R! HuggZ

Sounds like you are sliding into vanlife just fine....lots of options for potty stuff. I can't do without something myself....in my case it is a jug and a 5 gallon bucket but not everyone is comfy with that....a porti-potti is often a good choice...
Have fun on your extra day off...
Bri

No biggie really booked very lightly today, to get myself back in gear. Took every ounce of will power to make the drive back, in the end knowing money was running short got me motivated. Uggg... work what a horrible four letter word!

PS hit walmart before I left, as the walmart's in LI are no where near what is in PA.....

Moby sucked down almost 360.00 in gas....if I had taken Minnow, I barely would have spent 100.00...

but I had lots and lots of fun driving!...

Over this past weekend - I went to see some Old Great Aunts and Uncle's - probably my last time -- most are in their mid 80's - my fathers younger brother is 92-ish

I should have brought every gas can I own - cheaper gas is always a bargain

In the Allentown and Quakertown areas - there is a fair share of closed business's -- I didn't get to go into a Wally-World - but I bet they have hunting supplies --- on Long Island - there's only two with guns or ammo

One of the nicest Walmarts is in Dixon City, always clean, next is Tunkhannock HUGE hunting department as Wyoming county and Sullivan are both huge hunting counties

trying to pull myself together, today is going to be crazy, overbooked trying to fit everybody in, my Dad screaming for some cash, and I didn't make it to his house yesterday and I should have gotten up earlier today but I feel like slug, so Dad will have to wait till later, he's like a two year old who waits till the last minute to ask then wants things yesterday, I keep telling him Iam not a mind reader, and if he needs something to at least give me a day or two notice...geez....I feel guilty even though I know I shouldn't.

Hmmm, I wonder if many of us are seeking or have embraced the lifestyle of a traveller because of our families? My dad just told me he's taking me out of the inheritance since I say I don't want anything, thats what I'll get. Well, its a bit more involved that that.

We wannabes will just keep on trudging on with our dreams and plans until it is right to leave. I do think though that everything won't be lined up ever and the time to leave may be sooner. You think that may be a good thing? Kind of like having a baby, if you waited till everything was right financially you would never have one.
I hope this isn't off topic but reading your problems with relative demands made me start thinking a different way.
Dragonfly

Dragonfly not at all I was just venting, after a crazy kinda vacation to come back to his whining and woe is me stuff , I am just glad I was able to vent this morning. Me and My dad are oil and water, and yet I feel like somebody has to do it.... I really wish he would sell his home andmove to florida like all the other old crabby people....lol

Did they build a new one in Tunkhannock? It used to be small and dingey. Love the Dickson city one. Also their gander mountain :)
