Stealth spots in Yuma (AZ)?

We're stuck in Yuma for the next few days and have the two vans. It looks like Walmart is out of the question with "No parking" signs. I don't want to go to California for the typical reasons. I have my regular go to spots, but since I've never been in Yuma stealthing,  I wonder if anyone has some tips. I don't want to go to an LTVA for just a couple of nights, especially with two vehicles to pay for.

And not super muddy as I'm getting my van detailed for selling.

no need to stealth camp (which is mostly a myth anyways IMO)

There's plenty of BLM land around. Probably the best spot for not getting muddy is the BLM land just north of the Legion hall. It's just north of the legion hall on 95 headed towards Quartzsiite. Enter from the parking lot of the legion, go around the building and find a spot. It will be crowded at this time of year but it's also a place where people are used to being parked closer than normal. The pro side of this is that you only  have to go a couple of hundred yards on gravel/dirt to get to parking.

If it stays dry you can go almost to Mitry Lake on paved roads, go out 95 N to South 7A east (lights and 2 gas stations mark the corner) Follow paved road to end. Camping starts almost immediately after the pavement ends. If it rains the road gets very muddy from farm trucks pulling out of wet fields.

Hey Al, We're in two Nissan NV full size cargo vans.

Almost There, will definitely check out that BLM land tomorrow. For some reason, Freecampsites.net has been down all afternoon. That's why I started this thread. I use them often. Steve and I are city folk and have no problems with noise. That's what earplugs are for.

Cammila, I lost all my contacts when I dropped my phone in a pot of water (note to self: back things up!) But I still have Gunny's phone number, weird, eh? I was planning to go to La Posa South LTVA once we get out of here on Wednesday. I figure that's as good a place as any to park the vans (with the "for sale" sign on mine). Would there be a better place? We're sitting tight until the van is sold or late January when Hubby has to fly out of Tucson.

The casino in Winterhaven used to allow overnighting for a night or two, while technically in California, it's on the AZ side of the CA checkpoint and closer to Yuma than other legal options.

I have no personal experience stealthing in Yuma, but here are some areas you might check out and see what sort of vibe you get.

North of US95/16th street, between Pacific and Avenue 3 is a neighborhood of industrial and commercial places.

Between 1st and 4th Avenues, and 12th and 15th is another commercial area with several car repair/tire/auto body shops.

All along the south side of I-8, from about Pacific to Araby is a frontage road with trucking, packing, RV and other industrial stuff.

32nd Street, between the MCAS and Foothills Blvd. is a jumble of commercial places, RV parks and vacant land. You might be able to blend in somewhere along there.

Long ago I overnighted at the Love's truck stop, Avenue 3 at I-8. No problem except noise.

West 8th Street is a mostly Latino area with strip malls and other businesses. They might be more tolerant of vehicle sleepers than other parts of town.

Ted, I sent you my phone number. We are shopping in Yuma right now but will be back in camp in a couple hours. It’s a largish group with light, music, etc. we are parked behind the two big tents and have a red Atv by our rig. It’s a different rig since you sass us last.

If you mean Paradise Casino, they now charge.

There are 3 1/2 Walmarts in Yuma all of which allow overnite parking. Lowes and Home Depot also allow overnite. Fortuna Ponds and Mittry Lake are within a few miles of Yuma and on BLM land. Near Quechan casino is tons of BLM land. Finding a place to stay in Yuma is simple. Stealth ( such as it is ) is really not necessary as the town is very receptive to vehicle dwellers.
