Just now I was sitting in my Van having lunch when all of a sudden some guy appears outside of my window peeping in.

I had my privacy shades down so he couldn't see in, but he was trying too.

He didn't know I was inside - he probably thought I was out hiking?

After lurking around for a few minutes he hurried back to his car and drove off.

I am on BLM land several miles from the freeway.

I didn't like it.

You need to pay attention to the voice in the back of your head and the feeling in the pit of your stomach. You need to move.

Better cautious than sorry.

That is when I would hit the alarm button on my key ring....make him think he got to close and the car is alarmed and the sound travels.

Buy yourself an airhorn canister. Blast it to scare him to death. Very handy devices at times. For instance if someone decides they want to park too close to your RV just send them a few warning blast.

He was interested in what was inside of the van.

All part of the adventure...

That's not good advice to follow.

Inside the van yes! Out the window you take the chance of pissing someone off who may retaliate in some way you wouldn't like.

Wouldn't that damage your hearing in such a small enclosed space?

So, I just went to town to get supplies and I left a chair at my site with a note on it saying the same. When I got back, there's a big piece of crap class A complete with an ATV and a whole family with little kids parked 100 ft from my camp. That's NOT OK . . .

100 feet is farther than most city houses are from each other.
My lot is 80 ft wide.
My neighbor is < 20 ft from my house (both sides).
Most campsites in campgrounds are less than 100 ft apart.
That is what most people are used to.

As to the OP's question: I think the panic button on your key fob is the best response (if you have one).  Peeper will think he triggered the anti-theft, you won't give away that you are inside.

Boat horns (small portable air horns) are 120 dB - that's pretty loud. I wouldn't want to set one off inside a van.
