Why I can't use out houses without a bag. Spider....

Mr. Spider happily catching flies when he hears a noise and almost all the light goes out.
He looks he sees the big hairy body of a large spider descend into his home.
He figures it is better to strike first and....

Yup I need a safety bag or o natural Because in each and every outhouse I see a bird spider with one inch black fangs.

I'll stand at the gates of hell and not blink. Tease Russian gangsters about how Russia can't play hockey.
Outhouse  :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :shy: :shy: NEVER

The snakeproof boots you see for sale are guaranteed. If a snake bites you through them.....they'll give you a new pair of boots.  :)

Those are favored places for Black Widows to hang out in.  :)

Florida is loaded with Widow spiders--Black, Brown and Red. I've seen them in all of the swankiest hotels (including Disney) usually in the outside window frames and under the picnic tables.

It's a good thing the tourists don't know what they are......

I've also seen Pygmy Rattlers at Disney World. They're too small to kill you, but can lay a hell of a hurtin on ya.

I don't want to be accused of spreading bad information but in British Columbia we found a few hairy black shiny buggers with red hourglasses but not perfect shaped red hour glasses or anything and I am not a spider expert so not sure if they were Black Widows or Widdow Black spiders?  :) But we do have brown recluse or Violin spiders and those bites hurt like a B34ch. Had a few over the years, and we do have rattlers in the interior but the bite isn't horrible for us healthy big-uns. Best to leave them all alone and give them a wide berth.

I've never heard of a spider with a red hourglass that wasn't a Black Widow.

My Mom lived in Las Vegas, and one morning I decided to pull some grass/weeds that were growing between the rocks she had lined the inside of the fence with to keep the neighbor's small dog out. I had to shift the rocks to do a decent job, and I found a Black Widow nest about every 18 inches along the fence. They didn't attack -- they just sat there and glared at me.

The Black Widows that I'm familiar with are shiny, and the hourglass is on the belly of the spider.

They are roughly the size of a US quarter, the body is a bit smaller than that, but the legs would extend around it.

Widows aren't as aggressive as most people think. I used to breed them, and anytime I opened a cage for cleaning they would usually ignore me at first, and if I started to really bother them they'd fall off their web, curl up their legs, and pretend to be dead until I left them alone.

Generally, they won't bite unless you happen to sit or step on one.

As for where they are found, nowadays they can be seen virtually everywhere since they have travelled along with the humans and like to be near them (more bugs).

Cool Lenny,
That kinda jives with what we saw. I thought it was a shiny marble, I wear glasses, and bent over to pick it up and it did the alien uncurl move on me. I saw a flash of red as it did and then nothing but drywall dust. I am small but solid and when the Flight or Fight kicks in...Someone tossed a jar on it but couldn't really get a great look at her (she was bigger I think she's are big in spidey world) Reminded me of an smaller African Orb spider and I hate those....sorry I know this forum is about love and support so I love them outside and I support their right to be outside... We did toss it outside and not in the toilet but I have to be honest; it was for purely selfish reasons!

I did see a couple of Rain Spiders in South Africa (distant widow relatives). Never saw any tarantulas there, but that's not surprising since they are very secretive and only emerge at night. Spent some time turning rocks in a field and found a half dozen or so scorpions, most likely Parabuthus species--very very dangerous. I soooo wanted to take one home with me but couldn't figure out a way to smuggle it on the airplane with me. ;)

Aw hell Lenny. You could have easily smuggled a little bug somehow. You weren't trying hard at all!

I got away with a live monkey once but that was back in the day
