Are they too heavy for velcro?

That's a great idea, I'll have to try this

if you remove the insulation where will you put it?   highdesertranger

With relatives in their attic, may get extremely hot though

Insulation is not thermal mass like adobe or water drums.

This makes sense, perhaps you're right. Bob was suggesting not to insulate for hot weather but surely the fan set on high should evacuate all the heat within a short time. If this is the case, do most not ventilate in the winter?

Still have to, to prevent buildup of too much humidity.

And to prevent death, if burning propane inside the living space.

But at a much slower rate.

Key is **controlled** ventilation only, no inadvertant infiltration / convection.

No bridging / conducting / radiation to the outside.

IOW a sealed envelope, vapour barrier, at least as important as R-values.

In terms of convection, if you're venting, wouldn't your warm air technically be escaping while sucking in cold outside air?

What kind of vent do you have? Did you place it somewhere else other than your roof?

One alternative I've considered for removable insulation is Thermarest-style sleeping mats. They offer good insulation but are quite compact when disinflated and rolled up for storage.

No, active venting is required.

For hot weather or while cooking high-CFM fans like Fantastic or MaxxAir.

A big enough opening in the ceiling can be used passively in the cold, or small powered computer-style.

Better to have one setup for year round.
