Okay, it is time to replace my car with a different and presumably less broken money-hole of a car. While it isn't a deal breaker, I would love if I could get a car with recline-flat seats like my brother's Scion tC has.

Which cars (sedans) do that?

A 1963 Rambler station wagon seats would not only recline but make a completely flat seamless platform front to back. Cann't wait to see that be reinvented.

"Flat" is relative. Seat bottoms slant downward at the back. Seat backs are often curved so that even when they're relatively horizontal they arch up in the middle. Headrests are usually angled forward. The the bottoms of the rear seats slope a little, too.

Perhaps a better way to approach this is set a budget for a less broken money-hole of a car, then try them out to see which ones in your price range recline enough for your needs. It'll do you no good to get recommendations for cars you can't afford.

I appreciate that. What I am looking for is a car where when the seat is all the way forward, you can (in some cases with the headrest removed), recline the back of the seat 180 degrees without it hitting the back seats. (As opposed to fold flat seats.)

This feature was built in to a few models of sedan and coupe over the years but isn't something that can be searched for in a features list and so I was hoping that those who have or have had the feature on a particular model of car would say, "Oh yeah, this one does that."

I am aware that I can test cars but as my budget is reasonably nonrestrictive, it would be many, many hours of my life that maybe this forum could help minimize.

You can do that in a Honda Element. You do have to remove the front headrest and the front seat has to be slid all the way forwards. When the front seats are laid flat they don't hit the back seats. They lay down intentionally close to the rear seats as the car was designed for sleeping in it. I know this for a fact because I own a Honda Element. You can also rotate the passenger side front seat's back rest forward so that it will rest on top of the seat base creating a flat surface. But you can't swivel the front seat to face the back without doing some modification to it. Some people who own Elements have modified the front passenger seat so that it will do that.

I drive a Honda cr-v (2008) and the passenger seat leans back flush with the back seat. I am 5'3 and able to lay down straight. I use a sleeping pad to even out the slight curves. (you do have to remove the headrest for it to lay flat)
