Questions for on the road... first: one about cash

I am new on here and searched for information on carrying cash.&nbsp; If there is a post please let me know.&nbsp;&nbsp; <br>Some things are a cash only thing....&nbsp; The Algodones shopping/medical stuff is at the top.&nbsp; How and where do I safely carry cash.&nbsp; <br>I thought of a money belt, but under my brace?&nbsp; Carrying a purse seems like an invitation to a grab.&nbsp; I'm not one for stuffing things in my bra.&nbsp; Carrying your credit card.&nbsp; I have gone through it being stolen twice before and do not want to go there again.&nbsp; <br>I am open to suggestion and could sew something if needed.&nbsp; (still have my sewing machine)<br><br>kidiekat

Second question.&nbsp; Maybe this is a given....&nbsp; but I'm going to ask any how.&nbsp; <br>My hair is long, actually down to sit on level.&nbsp; It is manageable daily with a bun.&nbsp; Out of my face.&nbsp; I am considering that it will be easier to keep clean with a short doo.&nbsp; How's it working for others?

&nbsp;I used to have long hair, but too much hassle and now sport a pig shave; just have to SHOW it soap 'n water and it's clean! If I gotta carry a lot of money on my person, it's tucked away where it's not easy for someone to snatch or fish out. ..Willy.

I have a debit card from my favorite bank, with direct deposit I'm almost automatic. I keep some pocket cash, but not enough to draw attention. I never have more than a $20 in my hand when needed for a cash purchase.<br><br>My debit card is carried with my other cards, DL, medicare, ect. only one case to keep track and not a big deal. debit card has some theft protection.

Zil.&nbsp; I have the automatic deposit too.&nbsp; Here at home I have no need for cash so I use my debit/credit card.&nbsp; But on the road I may need cash for some unforseen event.&nbsp; I don't know.&nbsp; There are stores in Delaware that do not accept credit cards or debit.&nbsp; Is that amazing???&nbsp; That is the only time I need to get cash first.&nbsp; But since I know about it I can be prepared.&nbsp; On the road&nbsp; I won't know when this may happen.&nbsp; <br><br>I may do a money belt just to keep my id and credit card and some cash.&nbsp; I want to be safe not sorry.&nbsp; In the age we live in you just never know what nut will be ready to grab and run with what you have.&nbsp; <br><br>I have had my debit card stolen.&nbsp; So that is a major hassle.&nbsp; It takes a couple weeks to get a new one and since it will come through a mailing service that will take longer.&nbsp; That means no access to money.&nbsp; Yikes.<br><br>I have to figure out some hiding spots for a few tucked away dollars.&nbsp; Once I go on the road I have no one I can call for help.&nbsp; If it happens here I can go straight to the bank and they know me and can take care of me.&nbsp; <br>On the road, I will have out of town checks that no one likes and no debit card to show with the check.&nbsp; <br><br>I have to think on this.<br><br>kidiekat

Yeah, i grew up in baltimore and maryland.&nbsp; Everyone, every single little store or little resturant, always took credit cards.&nbsp; heck by the time i left even vending machines took credit.&nbsp; Only criminals refused cards and sometimes they'd even take them in a round about way <img rel="lightbox" src="/images/boards/smilies/rofl.gif" class="bbc_img">&nbsp; <br><br><br>When i moved to west virginia i was in for a shock, MOST places didn't take credit here <img rel="lightbox" src="/images/boards/smilies/redface.gif" class="bbc_img">&nbsp;&nbsp; It was kind of embarrassing, because i went to pay the bill and the woman wouldn't take my card, and I had to leave the (ex) wife there and walk to an ATM.&nbsp;&nbsp; They didn't even have a sign up warning people...in this day and age.<br><br>I try to keep a little cash on hand...tough though cause its tempting to spend and not replace cash.

dazgaridin....&nbsp; OMGarsh.&nbsp; I was born in Baltimore, Maryland.&nbsp; (the armpit of the US)&nbsp; Sorry I don't mean to offend any one.&nbsp;&nbsp; 60 years ago it was a whole different place.&nbsp; Now it is just one giant slum in the city.&nbsp; Eastern avenue was fantastic then.&nbsp; The five and dime where you got a frozen mug of root beer for a nickle.&nbsp; Epstien's was the place to shop.&nbsp; The Grand movie theater OMGoodness.&nbsp; Monument street was another street to shop and go to the market and get fresh produce and meats from the farmers.&nbsp;&nbsp; Downtown is where Hecht/Macey's was.&nbsp; That was for the elite with bucks.<br><br>I left in my 20's and lived in California.&nbsp; Sacramento was flowers on the free ways clean streets amazing.&nbsp; Santa Cruz was a laugh because they have a boardwalk the size of....&nbsp; Well it was definitely not Ocean city or Atlantic city.&nbsp; When my friends took me there I said "This is the boardwalk"??????&nbsp;&nbsp; <br><br>When I came back to Baltimore 20 years later the ride from the airport stunned me.&nbsp; They did clean up the inner harbour and all the little cafe's there but to get to it is major slum and a dangerous drive.&nbsp; Such a pity.<br><br>That's why I live on Eastern shore.&nbsp; It's away from the crazies.&nbsp; I can take the back roads and avoid the tourist traffic and I am safe from the nutso's.&nbsp; <br><br>That's why going west will work.&nbsp; The people have a whole different mindset.&nbsp; I didn't see it till I lived there.&nbsp; If my mum hadn't gotten sick I would never have come back to Maryland.&nbsp; I would still be living in Cloverdale by the Russian river with the artist's and hippies.&nbsp; lol&nbsp; I guess they are still there..&nbsp; That's been years ago.&nbsp; I loved camping in the redwoods, the smell was so good.&nbsp;&nbsp; I hope all that has not changed.

I actually very much prefer to use cash whenever possible. Call me paranoid, but leaving a trail of debit/credit card transactions to lead people straight to me is unsettling.&nbsp; I figure, the people I care to keep in touch wit will know something of my location. The rest, well, Id like to at least make it difficult for an ex girlfriend, ex employer, ex friend, collection agency, justice court, or any other government agency to find me. I know they have their ways, but running your card everywhere you go just draws a target on your back.<BR><BR>I try to keep a few different stashes in as secretive places as possible. No one assumes I'm carrying cash, so no one is looking. I only carry 20 bucks or so on my person, the rest is all hidden. <BR><BR>I actually feel safer carrying cash, than I do letting the bank hold onto it for me. Let's be honest... One typo, Identity theif, or whatever, and you're broke!

I wear my hair about shoulder length and only have to have it trimmed about every three or four months It easily pulls back in a pony tail through a baseball cap.&nbsp; Short hair feels good but is hard to maintain.&nbsp; JMHO.<br><br>I carry my cash in a fanny pack right next to my .38 Ruger.&nbsp; <img src="/images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif" class="emoticon bbc_img">

I had my identity stolen a few years ago and it was a hassle to get everything corrected.&nbsp; Since then, I have been carrying cash instead of debit/credit cards.&nbsp; I have a dictionary safe (looks like a book but has a locking compartment inside) that I keep cash in.&nbsp; Since I always have a few books with me, it blends in completely.&nbsp; I also have some padded hangers for my blouses and the hangers have zipper pockets.&nbsp; I keep cash and gift cards in there and as long as I have things on hangers, no one sees the pockets.&nbsp; My family thinks I am wacky, but these products are out there, so I'm not the only one!

Noah.&nbsp; You are so right.&nbsp; One wrong move with your card and the battle begins.&nbsp; I am lucky.&nbsp; I regularly check my account activity on line so when my card got popped I caught the strange charges in the first 48 hours.&nbsp; Wow, they did the first attempt with a dollar, to see if it would go through.&nbsp; Then tried&nbsp; a hundred dollar item, and the third was a big one.&nbsp; It was one of those nights I couldn't sleep so about 1am I checked my account.&nbsp; I looked at the dollar and said "what the heck"?&nbsp; I didn't recognize it.&nbsp; It wasn't a kindle charge from amazon.&nbsp; That's the only thing I have ever charged that would be a dollar.&nbsp; Then I found the other charges.&nbsp; One of them was in Texas.&nbsp; I don't live in texas.&nbsp; I looked up the information associated with the charge and knew it wasn't mine.&nbsp; So I was a nervous wreck.&nbsp; Fumbling for a phone number to call and stop my card at 1am in the morning and I couldn't even think straight.&nbsp; By the time the bank opened I called Lisa the manager and was crying.<br>Lisa took control and did every thing personally to take care of it.&nbsp; I went to the Bank once to sign some papers and waited for my new card.&nbsp; Every thing I pay ie: electric, phone, trash pick, etc up was all on automatic payment so I did hours of calls and sitting on hold for a real person to notify them why my auto payment wasn't going to be on time.&nbsp; <br>I have no bills, I owe no one, I don't do late payments.&nbsp; It makes me nervous to have to think about when is a payment due.&nbsp; Did the check get there.&nbsp; Was it applied to the correct account.&nbsp; Yup I am ocd on that.&nbsp; <br><br>So being out west, with no access to money for gas or food would scare me since I have no back up.&nbsp; I don't worry about a trail of charges cause no one would look for me anyhow. lol<br><br>I will study the car for tuck away spots and I really like the idea of a pocket in the tongue of my hummers.&nbsp; I wouldn't even have to sew it.&nbsp; The fabric glue out there is so good I could stash some money in both shoes.&nbsp; Who wants some old hummers/tennies.&nbsp; <br><br>I agree with you about not trusting the banks though.&nbsp; Especially after watching the news on the banks in Europe???&nbsp; some where over there.&nbsp; The banks closed and people couldn't get their money and they lost most of what they had saved.

myvantasy I like the idea of a pocket in your hanger and the book idea is great.&nbsp; You could even get a cheap book from good will and cut a section out and make your own hidden safe.&nbsp; <br>Your family hasn't gone through your experience of being robbed.&nbsp; So it's hard for them to understand how you feel.&nbsp; I hope they never do.&nbsp; You feel so vulnerable after that.<br><br>When my home was robbed and ransacked I couldn't even live there any more.&nbsp; I had to pack every thing and move I didn't know if they would come back again and this time I would be there and be assaulted or what.&nbsp; I had a heavy duty safe in my walk in closet and I guess since they couldn't get in it they decided to take it with them.&nbsp; Can you imagine???&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; By the way... it took a year but I got a call from a detective to come and identify some of my jewelry.&nbsp; Yep.&nbsp; They got em.&nbsp; They had robbed some others and got caught and some very unique pieces stood out that's how they were linked to my break in.&nbsp; And yes they were violent with a gun in one of their robberies.&nbsp; They didn't shoot him but the one man was busted up pretty bad.&nbsp; So I was lucky I wasn't home.
