I'm currently a part-timer, but the one thing which would make me consider going full time are property taxes.  I pay over $6000 a year in property taxes.  That means I've paid over $132,000 in property taxes over the 22 years that I've lived here.  What a rip off!!!

Agreed. Where I live currently I would never own a piece of property due to: 1) potential for being stuck with unneighborly neighbors (which applies anywhere), 2) draconian zoning regulation and 3) politics and policies that I'm averse to.
I've been researching where I can buy small acreage with minimal restrictions at a good price, with the intent of using it primarily as a physical address and where I would stay a month or two out of the year in good weather. It also needs to be a place where I would be comfortable living permanently if I have to give up nomadic life.
Tennessee is at the top of the list right now. Staying out of the half a dozen counties with annual vehicle emissions inspection, property taxes are low and Tennessee only taxes interest/dividend income. There is sales tax to consider (and on food :dodgy: ), but I think I can reconcile that if I'm only there for short stays. If living there permanently can grow food, keep chickens, etc.
It would also be nice to own some land so that I can offer other nomads who may be travelling through a place to park for a night or a few.

@GraceinMotion
Have you thought of buying a vacant lot in Pahrump, NV? Nevada doesn't have income tax; the tax on "interest/dividend income" in Tennessee might turn me off. I have no idea about property taxes in Nevada but how much property tax can they charge on a lot worth $6000 (1400 W Coral Rd Pahrump, NV 89060 2.4 acres)?

Yes, there is cheap land to be had in several Western states, and I've considered that the ideal situation would be owning small acreage in two tax-friendly states, one East and one West.

If you think property taxes are bad, try association dues!

I own a condo in Southern California. My association dues are almost double the amount of my property taxes. Frankly, I think I get more benefits from the property taxes than the association dues.

There are many places in the country that have very low property taxes.

I'm lucky; my HOA only charges a little over $300/year and the HOA bylaws limit any annual increase to 5%.  It takes 70% of the owners to agree to bylaws changes, which will never happen.  Property taxes are fairly reasonable too; Zillow says $2500/year.  (I should know but it is just part of the escrow and I don't pay attention.)

yea they suck. It is all about location. I pay like $1,000 on my home, 2 horse barns, 5 acres in rural NC.
My mom is on a lake in NC and is about $2800. My brother is in NJ and has a home and pays $12,000 per year.
My Aunt lives in Monclair NJ and she pays over $15K per year on a 125 yr old home that has a postage stamp yard and the neighbors can hear ya fart inside the house :)

property taxes suk. no doubt about it

Wow.  Congratulations!!  I have a friend who filed for a property tax relief program for seniors; she got one property tax refund check for $1900 and expects another for $2000+ any day now.

30 acres in the mountains, firs and larches, nice scenic views

$28 a year property tax.

Taxes pay for "civilization".

I like "civilization".

Taxes also pay for things like the pension of the former mayor of Seattle (6 figure pension for life for working just 3 years) who is being sued for sexually abusing children.  I think the taxes are even paying for defending the lawsuits.

I prefer "civilization". Despite all its flaws, it beats hell out of "anarchy".
