What is the word for this- a dark Shakespearian drama with a bevy of liars, thieves, and more.
I still do not know the true and twisted story ( Oliver Twist?) of what I went through. But to move on to the past few days: I am officially without a room to live in. I have all my stuff ( many music instruments etc ) in  a 10 BY 10 uhaul storage facility with 24 hour access ( 24 - 7, is $10 a month extra ) for $155 per month.
An old EX and her wonderfully tolerant husband have permitted access to their home for a limited time.

It is quite the shock being without home and with no time to prepare. I think this situation has been in my subconscious for a long time.
I am such an individualist, and living in liberal Calif is so so irritating - so many rules, laws, and so on.
Living in an SUV All manner of things come up, as you all know. - nearest late night bathrooms  and driving too much to accomplish this basic task and so on.
Thought you'd want to hear.

I hope you get everything settled and make it out alright. Sometimes I wish a quick unseen end would come for my situation.

I'm sure anyone here would be glad to lend an ear or provide advice that you might need.

Good luck.

I think it is called LIFE.

The first thing you need is a bucket with leak proof bags, (With a gamma lid) and a bottle to take care of the late night bathroom problems.  Baby wipes are also a necessity.

I hinted at my living in garage situation a few months back and some astute member(s) sensed trouble ahead. Man were they right. I was caught in between warring factions- amazingly dysfunctional women- 3 of em. Then one of the little narcissists ( sociopath?) sent in a thug because I was already perceived by one of the factions ( three people against me) as in league with the other women.
I had no choice, it was her ad in the paper after all that I had responded to. But their side saw me as an enemy. Police were called on me.. just a hassle.
Anyway the thug ended up being screwed by ALL the women on both sides! And this guys was a full fledged felon. Wonders never cease, man's stupidity. I lost about 1000 dollars ( a mixture of free rent offered for services and deposit )
2 women have diametrically opposed stories about "ownership" of home.
The woman who originally signed me up to be there kept adding new conditions to our deal including making myself an enemy of others by serving them with papers. At one point this woman who received my monis called me a coward while she was 3000 miles away from this home.
It is the strangest most unpleasant, most misunderstood experience of this kind in my lifetime.

Three estrogen-aced bombs in one house - you stepped into a mine field.   :(

Now, learn from that mistake, motor on and discover the world.  You are free.  Just hope none of that legal nonsense follows you down the road.

You're building character and at some point down the road this is going to be a damn funny story.

One of the aforementioned lovelies was using methadone another was using meth or something of that ilk.. another was or is, the most narcissistic megalomaniacs I have ever encountered.

try to focus on solutions and positives. Got a van lined up? You can probably trim down from 10x10 to a van easily.

Well, the methadone shoulda been a clue. I'd have run like the wind, then it would have been on my terms.

Like Cyndi said, we're looking forward to the stories about this place after you've settled...

Hope you find something soon. Stay Safe.

Ever thought doing a straight trade on craigslist for a van in exchange for your SUV?

Just a thought.

Best of luck!

Sorry to hear you're in this situation. I've had to suddenly live in a new vehicle without warning...4 different times now, and the SUV was definitely one of the hardest for me. I'd secodn the suggestion of a van if at all possible. Keep us updated and the best of luck!

Bindi& Us did nearly this exact same deal...

They traded their RV straight across for a good used van (that they now live & travel in.)

...never hurts to ASK!! :)

You can probably do an RV-SUV trade faster than a Van-SUV trade. It's the time of year when folks are selling off their RV's rather than storing them.

My suggestion is do a trade and get something decent, then leave CA. It might take you a town at a time but start heading east. An RV will give you everything you need (bathroom, sleeping, cooking and storage) until you get someplace that you can stop and regroup. Make sure everything works and the roof doesn't leak.

IF YOU NEED TO an fully self contained/outfitted RV will give you a "home" in case you need to convince authorities that you are not homeless. Just pull it into an RV park and presto! Instant "legitimacy".

You may want to stay far, far away from drug users, both legal and illegal. My basic theory is I disapprove of illegal drugs and those who abuse legal drugs (includes alcohol). Therefore I do not associate with them in any form. This includes family. I come from a long and widespread line of alcoholics. I have enough problems of my own. I do not need to deal with their self-induced drama nor get sucked down any of their rabbit holes. Harsh? Maybe. But I figure I need to take care of my problems first. This way I can be there for for my adult kids if/when they need me. Plus they don't need to be worrying about me anymore than they have to.

I you can't swing buying a van right now, is removing the rear seats in the SUV and sticking them in your storage unit an option?
That can open up a decent amount of room as well as give you the floor space to put a bucket/toilet.

The good news is , anything you do now is going to be a step up from what you just left.

The trading rigs and consolidating your stuff into it will save you some coin and get you started on a better path.

Hang in there and remember you now have a lot of support right here.

What size SUV do you drive? IMO, if there is enough room with the back seats folded down to stretch out, it is habitable.

So nice to hear all the support and nary a wise crack... thanks so much
It is a smaller SUV 2014 Captiva with 2.4 engine.
I have a friend who I can temporarily hang out at.
I have another friend who is offering me a studio where he occasionally plays his drums ( I am one of the last full time musicians )
I am employed in San Diego so I cannot move from here easily. rarely drops down to 32 degrees, but can get very hot.

Here is my issue... extra employment ! I am eking by with the slowed down music business. so at my age and with minimal social security I have to work till the day I die. I am ok with this.
here is where this all gets confusing:
I am agonizing over this Uber ride share. Wearing SUV out while I am in a high interest loan, is unnerving.
it gets 18 to 30 mpg not ideal for ride share profitability.
Living in it, prevents making money with it!
any suggestions for where to sleep when in city?
