it is tough in this Van life situation because the quality of workmanship in van builds varies a great deal.

I will be traveling to Van Aid after my Amazon orders show up in the Amazon locker over in Salome. They are supposed to arrive by Feb 2.

Tools I can share with Pirate Camp members at Van Aid.
I travel with a small bandsaw, one of my model making tools. If you need a small, intricate piece cut come see me and I will cut it for you. I can cut nonferrous metals, brass or aluminum on it as well as wood and plastics. I don’t lend it out as the expensive and narrow, bimetal blade on it is easily broken using even gently over enthusiastic cutting forces.

Also my corded Porter Cable jigsaw is available for use by Pirate Camp members. It makes very smooth Finish Cabinet quality cuts that are superior to what the cordless jigsaws can produce. It was a 5 star rated tool in all the woodworking magazines at the time it first came on the market.

I also a have corded trim router and random orbital sander for Pirate camp member project use. Your customers should put the sand paper on their own shopping list of supplies as my personal stock of orbital sandpaper is currently limited to just enough for my own use.

Can you grab them for me for use on projects? I might not be there until early next week. Waiting on some Amazon mail and possibly also waiting on my vehicle license stickers to be forwarded to me.

I did a quick Pirate Camp repair this afternoon for Debbie, showing her how to secure her bus door seal gasket back into place. I am going to help her hitch up in the morning. Demonstrating the Magnetic Hitching poles I like to use for solo hitching without a spotter to help get perfectly lined up. Good types of Van AID projects for me, demonstrating a DIY fix versus stressing my own back.

Great news that you feel confident your arm issue can be resolved! By 2025 Van Aid or Pirate Camp you should be back to wrenching nuts and bolts instead of being in wrenching pain.

right now my Van Aid contribution is by helping people on the Facebook group figure out some sewing projects as far as supplies needed. What types of materials and supplies are going to be needed. Things such as upholstery projects and canvas work projects. Along with a strong reminder to pre- shrink many of the fabric material types as well as preshrinking sny sew in place Velcro. Velcro will shrink and pucker over time making it difficult to firmly stick to a solid surface that has sticky back Velcro on it. People who do not sew will typically not know how important pre-shrinking is. Very important when making cushion covers that need to fit over a certain size of foam. If you launder them later then the cover will shrink and be too tight if you do not take that step. The same thing goes for a fabric window covering that is not gathered on a rod but Velcros or snaps in place.

So if you are asking for that help or offering that help then step #1 is shrink the fabric first at a laundromat. Obviously that job belongs to the person asking for help, let them go to the laundromat.

Also if they need really long zippers bring them along as they can be difficult to find in local stores. Only use 100% polyester thread if the project has UV exposure. The sun destroys cotton and nylon threads much more quickly.

As of today, the rest of Pirate Camp has headed South to Yuma area. I am still hanging at the normal Q Pirate camp location. Likely not leaving to join them until Monday morning as that looks decent for dry roads and no strong headwind. I am waiting on a package due to arrive by Friday, it has project materials in it I want to use at Van Aid.

Today is pretty breezy and it is going to get stronger yet so I need to kick myself and pack up my new screen room. I have not yet stitched in place the webbing strap tie downs on the upper corners. Those make all the difference in it holding up when under attack from strong gusts. None of the hub style popup shelters have upper tie down points. I was taught by a couple of dust devils at La Posa South the value of adding them. It is a hand stitching job done with a bent leather sewing needle as I have no partner on the inside to pull the needle and thread thru and push it back outside to me. It requires a leather needle to cut its own hole, a regular needle can’t get through. I can do it solo but my stitching lines will be very erratic wiggly worm trails. Good function lousy form.
