Time for an update - my brother completed his radiation treatments about 6 weeks ago. The tumors have shrunk, and there is very little edema remaining in his brain. Yet - he is slowly getting worse. He can barely walk at all, and his hand tremors prevent him from using his iphone. The doc assures us that the tumors in his spine are not putting pressure on his spinal cord nor any of his nerves. He is due to see a movement specialist next week. It is too soon to know whether the edema he had has caused permanent damage. He is often confused and, I am pretty sure, having at least occasional hallucinations.
This is crushingly disappointing. I used to tell him to have patience, that once his tumors shrank, he would at least not get worse, and would probably get better. I often regret my words.

Boy, if I didn’t have great sisters I’d want you to adopt me! It’s great you have been there for him, jaqueg… I hope a longer term plan can be made soon.
It likely is too early to tell if your brother has permanent memory damage. Recovery is not always a straight and steady, forward path

Fortunately a “this too shall pass” situation, it is not permanent damage. Drink more fluids and take a baby aspirin to thin my blood a little bit is what I am recommending to myself, get that oxygen circulating to my brain so the synapses fire quicker.

I am going to give this newer 3M94 ET adhesive a try for installing the vinyl headliner in my travel trailer. It is very low VOC and has longer open time and longer repositioning time than the older version of 3m high strength spray adhesive. Those longer open and repositioning times mean it will be a lot easier to put up my headliner without a partner. Then I can stage the work with the rest periods I personally need for relaxing my back frequently to prevent spasms. It makes me a frustrating person to work with because of all the short work periods instead of just going for it and pushing through without stopping until the job is done.
Alas, his voice is also deserting him. It can be very difficult to understand him. We've tried Siri, but it often has trouble understanding him, as his voice can be so erratic. Which causes him to get upset, which makes his voice even worse...
Only one of his doctors is willing to say anything at all about longterm, and the best she can do is "many months".
His apartment is a Section 8 project voucher, and his current lease is up in June. It sure does not seem to me that he will be able to come back here to live. Don't know what I'll do then, right now it seems as if I have two options - try to stealth camp in suburban Orange County, CA, or give up my Washington residency and try to get on the CA gravy train. I did look at renting a room in someone's house, but that was very discouraging. It runs around $1300+/month in a decent neighborhood. I looked at several places, but none of them felt even close to all right.

That sounds just totally overwhelming. I know services are hit-or-miss in this country but you'd think there'd be something like a medical social worker that could help him work out the housing. It just seems rotten that someone that ill should have to worry about that too.
I keep remembering that line from the movie "My Left Foot" (different illness, same difficulty communicating) where the mom says to her disabled son, at some point where even she can't make out what he's saying, "God understands you, even if we don't."

Ah warmer weather is finally here in Quartzsite...................We visited the RTR Tues to drop off stuff at the free pile
Saw lots of old friends..............(and lots-O-new nomads).......The well-attended seminar presented was BAJA.....
LATER.....We even managed to meet Tony's Dream after painfully directing him to the Pirate Camp location
It appears this is the "Year of the CDH"...........Guppy and Mary had Diesel fuel/leaking hoses issues and Marsha needs an install at Van Aid
Bluetti power stations have shown their limitations......we're still working out options......."aviation plug"
Tracey got a bed platform and mattress as well as fixing the Heat/Blower in her KIA Forte car.....She still needs some "power" but lacks $$
Cee got her bed rebuilt in her new Transit van.........lower walls insulated/covered........and a basic countertop installed for now
I'm still fussing with some drawers to replace plastic bins in the Long & Tall van.....and my own CDH install
In couple weeks it's time for VAN AID near Yuma................

Not boring at all. I love following what my virtual friends from the forum are doing. Very kind of ya'll for helping each other.
Makes me wonder what I will have to offer. From the sound of my posts, not much! LOL.
I can hold things in place while you guys hammer, measure, saw, etc .
I like hand sewing. Never seem to get the tension correct when machine sewing.

I have a leather jacket from the 70s that needs some hand mending...
Maki - the nomadic tent maker, will be doing some sewing this week over at the YARC camp where there are sewing machines. I do not need to relocate as they are in visual distance of Pirate camp and I can just drive my car over with my project materials and leave my trailer sitting in place. But I am still waiting on some 72 “ inch long zippers to arrive, likely to get them tomorrow. Today I got some D rings and webbing for that project. Hopefully my tent improvements will be all completed within a week.
Hand mending it successfully depends on the condition of the leather. Fifty year old leather can be too fragile to take much stress.I have no more cameras to give.. pthbb

Last summer a woman wanted to pay me to renovate a fur coat. I told her the fur was OK but the skin was too fragile. So I refused the job request. Of course she went ahead and tried wearing it without the mending. The skin on the whole back of the jacket at the shoulders, arms and sides developed big tears. Skin and leather garments do not have a forever life span. Fifty years is starting to push that limit. .
