Just so you know a lot of times hitting yard or estate sales you can get nice wood cabinets or damaged furniture that can be modified or disassembled and repurposed cheaper than trying to build with new expensive wood from the lumber yard or big box store. Most big box stores have damaged panels for sale as well. Which often works out great for small projects.
True!

Will have to start looking around.

The community thrift store that is on the drive into Silly Al’s has a large outdoor yard full of all kinds of stuff out behind their building. You can bargain on the price… if they have even bothered to stick a price on the items out there. If they have not set a price just make an offer or even offer to take it away for free 🤣

Wasn't aware there was a thrift store there. Will check it out.

They close at 2:00 and are only open a few days a week. Not open On Sunday or Monday not sure about Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday are when I tend to go there. Locally owned. There is a shelf just inside the front door where they have some free food, generally things people got at the food bank and did not want. Canned and boxed stuff.

I'm good on food, though it's nice that they have that available for those that need it.

I'll check it out next time I'm in town. :)

Another broken ankle update -

Last Thursday got the OK to start bearing some weight, with the boot on. I got a walker and have been tottering around a bit. Foot/ankle let me know when I totter a bit too much. I’m about 8 weeks into this little adventure, apparently I have about 8 more weeks to go.

I’m watching a lot of movies and TV series. So grateful for streaming internet, without it I’d be stark raving nuts.

On Tuesday I will be moving into a real studio apartment. That will end at the end of January. Physical therapist thinks I should be able to be back in my van by then. Well I sure hope so, but it strikes me that I should not count on it and so I will line up a room or studio somewhere. Even if I am back in the van by the end of January, I am not sure I can count on long trips yet. Will probably make short trips to begin with.

Had a nice Thanksgiving with my sister and BIL. Just us, very quiet. Salmon, fried spuds, and kale. For dessert, pecan bars and ice cream. Yum.

But I couldn’t help thinking about potlucks in the desert.

Pro tip - do not break your ankle (or any other bone).

At least with the possibility of an apartment the mental stress is easier while you heal.

I cracked two bones in my left wrist while I was working on my build. That was definitely a big slowdown in progress. Not as bad as having my right wrist fractured but …

Recommend this if you haven't seen it already (it's free): https://tubitv.com/tv-shows/520582/s01-e01-case-histories-pt-1
Also this (free, and lots of seasons, but you have to be signed in to Amazon to access it): https://www.amazon.com/Leverage-Season-1/dp/B001N4RAEQ
If you like the star of the first show (Jason Isaacs ♥︎), there's also this, which is amazing, but it's not free: https://www.amazon.com/The-State-Within/dp/B0041EMP36
Get well soon, and pace yourself!

Thanks for the recs, will check them out!

I would have to check and see if they allow downloading to a device. Often those cheap seat deals do not allow shows to be downloaded. I have gotten spoiled by ability to download when I go to town on errands. Or else download in the middle of the night. I rarely get enough speed for streaming shows on my Verizon connection during “prime time” when camped in popular dispersed areas or in areas where the signal is not strong.
