I've deleted the off-topic posts, let's stay on topic which is Gunnys trip.

Gunny, you are a far better man than I, I seriously considered going myself but I have become such a wimp about the cold I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

You have my deepest admiration and thanks!

Whatever you think about this particular issue, the living, breathing heart and soul of this country is the freedom to support what you believe in, and to protest what you don't. Every time an American lawfully does that, we all win.

Alrighty, here goes more data. I don't have a dog in this fight, I decided to try and make my tiny voice heard when I saw the dogs attack people who were MOVING AWAY. And the leo were laughing. I don't need snopes or whatever to tell me what my eyes saw. While I am sure nothing much will be accomplished everyone needs to stand for something.

No politics, just disgust with bullies. I don't discuss the election or any other sensitive issues.

To all who have wished me well, I give you my humble thanks.

Good night and be safe, Rob

I admire your decision to join thousands of vets headed to Standing Rock, Rob. You guys are providing a great service. One vet walked over 200 miles, hitchhiking from Oklahoma, before he got a ride. He was in Elk County, don't know which state, when he went to a diner for for a meal. There he met the local sheriff who bought him dinner, gave him travel money, and told him he could camp overnight at the Veterans Park. The sheriff sent a deputy in a parked car to make sure the vet slept undisturbed. He told his story on Youtube because he's a Purple Heart Native American vet. He wanted us to know not all sheriffs or police officers are the same and that he received their help along the way. Darn, it's cold and snowy in the drone videos of that camp. Wishing you and everyone there peace, safety, and strong hearts.

Hi Gunny,
I'm a newbie (but lurking for several months and just started posting) If you have any medical issues, look for the "Herbal Medics" clinic at Standing Rock. Herbal Medics is a nonprofit started by a former Green Beret medic, Sam Coffman. They are doing excellent work up there at Standing Rock. I have been a student of Sam's for 2 1/2 years and our intermediate clinical herbalism students (from our school The Human Path/Herbal Medics University) rotate at the clinic there.  I am a work study at the school. If you go, tell them Sharon sent you :)
Here's a link to an article about our work there: https://deceleration.news/2016/09/25/herbal-medics-to-lead-clinic-operations-at-standing-rock/

Safe Travels!

There are a lot of mixed feelings here. I did not come here to be in any way violent, merely to let my voice be heard. Washington Post interviewed a couple of us this morning, not sure what their slant will be. I will stand with the others, but in a non-violent way. I have rigged two layers of Kevlar to place over my pacemaker along with my vest.

I have my essential drugs with me in case I am detained, only thing that worries me a bit is a tasers affect on my pacemaker. Several guys have left after seeing some of the antics of a few. Make no mistake, the pipeline will go thru, my hope is that attention will to sovereignty of the treaties will be looked at.

Looking forward to warmth in quartsite.

Be safe, Rob

Hats off to you, Rob, for being so brave as to go there with a pacemaker. My prayers for you are that you are not detained, that you are not tasered, and that you enjoy the warmth of AZ in January. Thank you for your reports.

Stay warm Rob. I look forward to buying you a beer in the Q.

Gunny,

Just like the Washington Post article...just the effort of all those vets to get there is gaining a LOT of publicity for the cause. So already you have done a lot of good.

I heard part of an interview with the former Marine who is handling logistics. He was saying their first priorities are to make sure every veteran who arrives can stay warm with coats, etc. Hope you are well bundled.

I think you are standing for the famous quote: "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Coldest night yet, but survivable. More vets straggling in and a few leaving.

On a lighter note, my daughter is cat sitting and staying at my apartment, her boyfriend came over "to visit" and asked why I had all the stuff for my ATV stacked up in the living room. She explained I was not the best mechanic or so she said. She went to class and when she got back all the brush guards and side plates were installed.

There seems to be more reporters now, I avoid them. Anxious to see how this plays out.

My best to all, Rob

SEMPER FI! Wish I was there!

"I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

One of the best quote's of life....

Get some Gun's and remember that cold weather training and that crowd control SITREP.

There seems to be some progress, there has been a couple of talks with the sheriff and others. There was some conflict at the bridge last night but I didn't see it.

I have modified a walker so I can stand for as long as they propose. Actually sit but it works. There are a few LEO's amongst the crowd thinking they are sly but easy to pick out when they start asking questions.

I am not wearing any rank or insignia, just my name. Some guy who thinks he runs things told me to show my service, I can't repeat what my reply was. Too many people wanting to run things.

I've been reading the forum daily, odd how you can miss people you've never met.

To all..Be Safe, Rob

Glad to hear of another night with no problems.

Gunny , CRVL addiction isn't so bad,,,,,,side effects , new friends and knowledge!

Keep warm out there.

Detroit Free Press had a lot of great pics on their website of vets building yurts with teen boys in the families that will live in the yurts. And pics of construction on temporary barracks, etc.

Looks so cold, so you are really making a sacrifice to stand up for your beliefs.

I just saw a news bulletin that the Army Corps of Engineers are halting the pipeline work.

Cautious optimism here. I'm going wait for the sheriff to move his blockade before I believe but it sounds promising.

I expect the gas line CEO's blood pressure went up.

Take Care, Rob

Being on the road full time now I have mixed feelings here.   I don't like oil trains or oil pipelines but we use a ton of diesel in our truck when moving from location to location.   I don't like sending our boys to the middle east to secure the oil fields there.  I realize that trucking oil on the interstates is a lot more dangerous than sending it through a pipe but when a pipe bursts, it can contaminate rivers in a big way, while a truck accident only takes out a few lives and causes much smaller property damage.

But as others said, props for getting out there and standing up against the corporations.

Gunny, I do believe you are a Hero, and one who is doing what he sees as being right.
I hope and pray that God will watch over you all, and bless you with all you need.
I have not heard a lot about what is happening, but also I don't have cable TV.
As long as you stay warm, and keep us all updated, we will have our own, up close and personal news updates and ones that aren't biased, but just telling it like you see it.
Be Warm, Safe and keep your mental state very positive, you should do well.
Looking forward to meeting you at the RTR in Jan.
Thank You for your service, then and now!!!!
Sharon

Hope we get a report from you about that blockade being moved and the razor wire being cut down. Glad you survived. I've been reading links all day online. Cautious optimism is the word.
