Hello,
My name is Tommy... In planning for the future, I have purchased a 7x16 cargo trailer, working on it now converting to travel trailer.
I'm also considering selling my fairly new 2018 F150 4x4 and buying a GMC Savana 2500 cargo van.
Anyone have any thoughts / suggestions regarding this decision? (Giving up 4x4 & excellent gas mileage)
Regarding the Savana Cargo van, There's two engine selections that Im considering between, the 6.0L V8 vortec or the 4.3L V6.
My gut says to go with the V8.
I'm going to hate giving up the superb gas mileage the 2018 F150 3.5 EcoBoost provides vs. a 6.0L V8.

Thoughts / suggestions welcome... Look forward to meeting new friends once on the road.

Towing a 7x16 cargo + conversion definitely calls for a V8. You would probably actually get better MPG than the V6.

This is basically reverse of what Ford and GM say officially. 6.0 373 at 4200, 3.5 400 at 2500. This is in current vans. Ford forums have people getting pretty rough with one another about which is better, V8 or turbo 6. I am not going there. Nor will I comment about displacement.

Forgot to say that since you don't have the turbo option on the GM, I agree you definitely would want a 6.0 if you would tow a lot. That isn't what the 4.3 was designed for.
 
Thank you HV, I stand corrected. I have never had a turboed engine but from 25+ years of pulling construction trailers, larger engines made towing easier. 454s and 460s made it easier getting up and down the Wasatch Mtns. Now that I am retired, I have a Chev pickup with a 5.3 pulling a 7x16 cargo/camp trailer which pulls the hills well while getting mostly 12 mpg baring windy days. My old Chev g20 hightop van with a 305 pulling a small cargo trailer was a dog in the hills and struggled to get 12 mpg. Still a believer in displacement and wish I had 6.0. Just a little more power and similar mpg.
