Just want to introduce myself. My name is Bob and I live in Taunton, MA. I just turned 50 and realize how I have become trapped in the "rat race". Chasing a dollar just to survive. Buying services that aren't necessary because that's what "everybody" does, cell phone, internet, cable. And the services are very expensive. I figured I would seriously give the thought to living in my F150 and purchase a truck camper. I have read so many wonderful things here and hope to learn more.  Bob

Welcome Bob, glad to have you. Have you given much thought to what type of camper, or would you build one out yourself?

Hiya Flffabear.....thanks for the welcome :) Since I have a totally paid off 2007 ford f 150 in great shape I have been looking for a slide in truck camper. The new ones are soooo expensive so I have been looking for used ones. Used ones that fit my short bed are hard to find. I know I also have a limitation as far as payload is concerned. They do make them but my options are limited. I might as well use my f150 as a jumping off point unless some of the forum members have any other ideas. Thx again for the welcome   Bob

Check out this one:</span></strong><br><br><strong><span style="color: rgb(0, 128, 0); font-size: medium;"><a href="http://cheapgreenrvliving.com/Converted_Cargo_Trailer.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><span style="color: rgb(0, 128, 0);">http://cheapgreenrvliving.com/Converted_Cargo_Trailer.html</span></a></span></strong><br><br>

Thx for the welcome dragonfly and stude. I looked at the storage trailer conversion and that seems like another option. My only concern would be leaving the trailer unattended when I have to work. I like the idea of the slide in truck camper so I can use 4x4 if needed. What would be the disadvantages of the slide in truck camper? I really do appreciate your suggestion.

welcome to the fold, got friends? and do they have driveways?out of town storage facility?

There are thre possible drawbacks to a cab-over camper.First is small space, especially for a short wheel base fitting one. The other two are related to height. One is just the height itself and the other one is weight up high when going around curvy roads.
