Hi Guys- My name's Andrew and currently I'm in Austin TX (paying rent and hating it!- Hating something that you're paying for is my version of hell). Anyway, I've built off-grid on Mt. Shasta at 6000' and spent 6months and 8000 miles in an '88 Dodge Xplorer, so I've a good idea of what I want, and what I don't. Sooo, currently shopping for a 14' stepvan, Cummins of course. I was a diesel engine mech. in the Navy and also built, produced and sold a bio-diesel company in Costa Rica (Tamarindo and San Ramon). It's just me and my two dogs- who travel well. ::)

Since working to figure this all out, I know I want the room and straight walls to build this out myself. I hated the fru-fru fabrics and padding in the Xplorer and frankly, waste of space. I also do not, will not maintain a storage space here in Austin. I'm all in.

Also, I've worked to make my 'work' location independent, so that's fitting right in... And when I'm ready, I can/could buy some land to build again, but I think my time in cities is done- I've lived in enough of them (Prague, Valencia Spain, S.F., Sea, Portland, Sac, Austin) and I've had it.

Van to be sourced from ebay, or commercial truck trader.com, etc. I should be able to come in well under $10K all in including solar. Build out to be done on the road/blm land and there's no reason I shouldn't make it to RTR 2019. Is that still on?

Like I said, new to this forum, but have seen most of Bob's videos (what a value to the community) and look forward to meeting people of the same ilk.

Writer, Artist, Music Producer, Videographer and general creative- see you out there! All my notifications are turned on, and plan much more time here...

Best wishes,
Andrew

Welcome to the forum, Andrew. I love Mt. Shasta - I lived near there, in Happy Camp, CA, for 13 years before moving to Idaho. Can't wait to go back when I get the opportunity to travel. Yes, RTR is still on, starting January 9 in Quartzsite. Right now I'm reading Bob's book. I just finished the part about types of vehicles, pros and cons . . . though I've already decided on a Ford van, to be purchased within the next six months.

Welcome to the forum Andrew. Sounds like you have a good solid plan that will make you and your dogs happy. Good luck on your van/truck purchase and hope to cya at RTR
