I could walk on the poly fine without damage but when I would get down on my knees my toes would break the polyiso.

What are you doing crawling around on your knees?

"What are you doing crawling around on your knees?"

Well I was installing the flooring.

First off I did not insulate the floor because 90% of the people said it was a waste of time,
Bob Wells tells people this, he is wrong on this, the floor is just another wall transferring energy from one side to the other at a rate between the R-factor and the delta T. It's 20% of the surface area, why would anyone want to tell someone not to insulate the floor because it is very difficult to come back and  insulate after the build is over.  I am glad you are setting people straight on this.

I agree with insulating the floor. Bob says just to wear down booties. I disagree with Bob on this one. I have 3/4 of an inch of Styrofoam with foil on both sides and then 3/4 inch plywood. I know people say that plywood weighs too much but that’s where I anchor everything. With the air blowing under the van the floor is important to insulate. IMO I am the Worlds best expert on my own opinion. I could use that inch and a half so my head wouldn’t touch the ceiling but I thought the insulation was worth the keeping my head bent.

"it is very difficult to come back and insulate after the build is over."

tell me about it. Thank god I was not done with the build and only had minimal stuff to deal with.

He was praying for absolution, for his sins of insulating a FLOOR!

Will lightning strike and destroy everything? Stay tuned!

I am here to tell you'll this made such a huge difference that I couldn't believe it. highdesertranger

Dude, w/ all that cold air underneath, sit or driving, I definitely believe in insulated floors. I've had both and know there's a huge difference . . . plus, I barefoot most of the time (I know, what's wrong w/ me?) and an uninsulated floor makes life suck.

Glad you hadn't gotten super far into your building out!

I'm about to take out 2/3 of my interior out and do some major upgrades. Part of that is building in a raised floor so that it's up to the door bottom. I'm over having to dustpan dirt out.

Hey buddy good to hear from you. I hope all is well. are you still out by JT? Or I thought you said Tucson? highdesertranger

Yep, holed up in Tucson. Have a friend w/ property here that's good for our whole caravan. Figure it's the perfect time and place to do some work on the rigs while we stay away from people. [emoji6]

What a frigging mess I have made of my pictures. Lets face it I am not good at this documenting stuff. I have a bunch of new pictures and updates. So coming soon I will update this thread, once I get my pictures straighten out LOL. Highdesertranger

Semi-good photos and organization is everything. Good photos is all about the lighting! But yea, we wanna see what you're doing!

Ok I have some pics ready to go.

I am going to show you all probably the single most make life easier addition I have done.  So remember when I put the floor in I had to remove everything included my bed. 1st pic looking where my bed was,

IMG_2432 - Copy.JPG
it's all out except for the front piece

IMG_2441 - Copy.JPG
side platforms are on but the kickers are not on the right side

IMG_2495 - Copy.JPG
in this pic the center piece is in.  I added a piano hinge you can see in this pic. the reason for the hinge will be obvious

IMG_2500 - Copy.JPG
In this pic the center piece is flipped up to allow access to the electrical and storage.  the only problem is when the mattress and bedd is on that thing is a bitch to lift.  I fought all last year and was so done with that.  Plus you had to prop the bed up with a stick while you messed around under there.  So while holding that weight you had to fiddle with a stick to hold it up.

so

Good to see some more pictures. Doing great. HDR

So here it is with the mattress,

IMG_2490 - Copy.JPG
You can see the kickers are all back in.

And now the big mod,

IMG_2538 - Copy.JPG
yeah a stupid gas lift this is the left side

IMG_2540 - Copy.JPG
And the right side

This was such a huge improvement.  What use to be a struggle is now easy peasy.  I can lift the whole bed with one finger,  I kid you not.  Plus it stays up on its own.  Sometimes the silly little things you do make life so much easier.

More to come

Nice! Did you have to pick a certain weight rating for the lift cylinders?
