Thought folks here might find this interesting. MIT researcher invents new battery using readiy available (at least for now) aluminum and sulfur. Says it charges faster too.

Good potential news there!

It will take emerging technologies like that that come from MIT and other higher learning institutions to bring battery technology to more widely acceptable use in vehicles for the future.

There is another new rechargeable battery technology in the news this month. It is the chitosan Zinc battery. The chitosan comes from shell fish waste such as crab shells leftover in the food industry. So no mining required for that component. When the battery life cycle is all over enzymes can quickly break up the battery components and the zinc in it can then be salvaged for reuse.
