As some of you will have already read, I am visiting in North America. I do this regularly, and usually stay for four to six months.

In September I will be leaving, and am looking at putting my van into storage for anything between six and eighteen months. The advice I have been given is not to store it in extreme temperature areas. To try and choose a moderate climate.

The mechanics of storing, the preparation for storing is not of concern at this point. What I am after is, how do I find somewhere to store it.

Where I store it is neither here nor there. Wherever it is, I will just fly out of there, and into there when I return. The specific questions are:

How do I go about finding storage facilities... or even a private facility?
Where would be the best place?
Should I insist on 'under cover'? (It is 8'6", so not able to fit in standard garage or self store facilities.)
What should I expect to have to pay? (I am on a very limited income.)

Today I found this site - http://www.parkatmyhouse.com/uk/ - does anyone know if such places exist in the US?
What would be the risks/benefits?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Lifey

There are many RV storage facilites. They tend to be cheaper further away from big cities. Try maps.google.com for "RV storage near LOCATION". Some offer covered storage for 12' high vehicles.
