Living in Quartzsite is not so easy to do, especially when you're a newbie. I really thought there would be a lot more people here I've been here a week I think I have to move to Cottonwood and the Verde Valley that might help me

Michelle you are just too early. More will trickle in but generally it’s November.

Too hot in Quartzsite at this time of year without air conditioning. Going to Cottonwood is a good idea. If you want to camp with other people post on the facebbook page... We Camp Together.

Eventually the caravans that are associated with HOWA will be down near southern Arizona. But the 3 caravans that have just begun are starting out in Nevada. One is just outside the town of Pahrump NV and two more are about halfway between Paprump and Enterprise NV. Enterprise is a outskirt bedroom community on the outermost edge of the metropolitan Las Vegas area. It is about a 45 minute drive from the BLM dispersed campsite to the Walmart in Enterprise. But rather a gas hogging 45 minutes as you do a long climg up over a ridge of hills.

But of course getting to Cottonwood from Quartszite also involves going up in elevation. Up in elevation is the only way to beat the heat in the Southwest.

If you move north now, you might arrive in Cottonwood just as the weather starts to cool off--and possibly get too cold for you to be comfortable (it's something like 4500 feet elevation). If you can, the best move would be to stay where you are for a few weeks, or maybe visit the Colorado River towns for a bit. It's still kind of hot, but cooling rapidly.

You might long for the relative peace and quiet you're experiencing now in a few weeks :) Come the end of October, the thundering herds will arrive in Quartzsite, and an entire de facto town will magically appear. In fact, that's what I find so interesting about the place--it's essentially a November-to-February pop-up town, with all the services and amenities of a normal town for that period. And of course, inhabited mostly by older folks.

Hi Michelle. Been there done that. My first time to Quartzsite was a few years back in early October. I baked in my motorhome at around 100 degrees before it started to cool down. My last time down 2 years ago I went to Ehrenberg about 18 miles west of Quartzsite close to the Colorado river. Getting there the first week of November was great weather.
There are usually a quite a few folks from cheaprvliving starting to show up around then. We had a pretty nice Thanksgiving potluck that year.
I'm planning on getting there the second week of November and you're welcome to join a pretty diverse group of vans cars and RVs for up to two weeks (is they're enforcing it this year). There is a laundromat/store that has water dump post office boxes only about 3 mile away or Blythe which is about 7 miles with the bigger grocery stores.
You can find directions on some of Bob's older posts on Ehrenberg. It's located at exit 1 just a mile into Arizona from Calif. off of I-10
Keep an eye on the Gatherings Formal and Informal page of this forum and you should start seeing some chatter in early November. They also have 2 caravans in this area planned for about that time.
Happy camping

The current forecast is for highs in the 80s and lows in the mid-50s to low 60s. That's kind of balmy compared to what it was a few weeks ago.  :D
