A federal judge has ordered San Diego to stop ticketing people living in vehicles. This is a temporary injunction in place until it is ruled on permanently. Are poor folks finally getting a break?

It's a ridiculous waste of time, money and city resources anyway. Cities have more important issues that should be taken care of. If someone living in their car does something illegal, or even litters, then fine them. I'm all for that. There are vehicle dwellers who give proper van/RV dwellers a bad reputation and making it more difficult for us.

But, if someone is simply living in their vehicle but not doing anything wrong, there's absolutely no harm in that. They should look at it this way: It frees up more S&B housing for those who need it!

I'm not so hopeful--this has happened before. The judge did NOT rule that the law itself was illegal--he ruled that it was simply too vague in its current state to be enforceable. The city will just rewrite it and try again.
