Imperial Dam is pay to camp location that requires a camping fees. Bob Wells features and camps on free 14 day, dispersed camping areas.

There are however lots of YouTube videos showing that location so no problem to find out what it is like to go there.

By the way, Bob Wells sold this forum, he does not post here anymore.

Imperial Dam is LTVA just like Quartzsite. What do you mean "pay to camp"? No difference that I can see.

Imperial Dam costs $187 (last year, anyway) to stay there as long as Sept. to April. I think it's well worth it. Dump station, potable water, filtered water, garbage dumpsters, mail delivery, LP fill, and close to everything Yuma offers. Less social interaction, though- which may be a plus!

The BLM has areas called “Long Term Stay Areas” or LTVAs that allow you to stay several months in an area with improvements as water and dump stations, trash dumpsters, vault toilets, and etc. There are usually free 14 day areas with no improvements near by if you would rather not pay and move a distance every 14 days, which is what we normally did. Many groups prefer to use LTVAs as they make it easier to gather and socialize.

When we went there, they had aerobics and yoga in the mornings. If you have a CB, there is a huge group that does that. A four-wheeling club for exploring. Meeting people to learn how to cook with solar. And they had a little library. We liked Imperial better that Q as there were more shopping areas and close to Mexico to get dental work done.
