You were not in a bind, you were in deep chit. lol

Right now I am sitting on the side of I 40. Dave blew a tire and the RV will not start now that the spare is on. I pulled out my AAA plus only to find that Zach let it expire and got his own without telling me. Luckily they let me renew and sent a tow truck. I have already took the Tire into Holbrook and found a place that is ordering it in for tomorrow. I am just worried about Max because it is 100 degrees and I don't have the A/C up. I may just stay at a Motel 6 tonight.

Hey Jim, you might want to pick up a cooling towel next time you're at Walmart. They are in the sporting goods area with the exercise equipment and cost around $10. If I have to take my boy out in the heat/sun (he's black) I wrap the cooling towel around him. It helps to keep his temp down. Obviously you can't leave the dog for a long period in direct sun, but if he's got to be outside (or in the car with windows fully open) for 10-15 minutes the towel should do fine to keep him OK.

I will look into the cooling towel next chance I get. Max is my boy and I'll do whatever it takes to keep him well and happy. As limiting as a pet can be he is my reason to get up every morning, usually before anyone else. He keeps me grounded as well as moving when some days I would just do nothing at all.

I am here at the Coloradjo GTG after putting 700+ miles in the last few days and 800+ since Flagstaff. I parted ways with Dave when he had RV troubles again for the third day in a row. The last I heard from him was he was in a RV park and thinks the Tioga is dead. It's wiring so I know given a chance he can work it out.

I came in from Colorado Springs instead of my usual route from Denver through Jefferson, I was saddened to hear that the small grocery in Jefferson may be closed. There is shopping in Conifer and Fairplay but it is a drive either way. The drive took quite a bit out of me so I have been limited to setting up and testing the internet, a little chatting and walking Max. Still it is great to be back in the old stomping grounds again, I have missed it.

As for internet, it is the first time I have had the full system up here. I know that AT&T is on HESPA+ and pulls from two towers with the closest one being congested. Streaming is possible but pretty weak. I also tested the T-Mobile which comes in as LTE/ band 12. It gets a good signal in the booster but I know the tower is quite a ways off. Streaming is better than with AT&T but still isn't what I had hoped for. I can tell you that so far each service is on a tower in different directions so I have to move the antenna each time I switch hotsopts. I did do a limited test on my Verizon 3G hotspot and got almost full signal with the antenna in the AT&T direction. Again it did okay except for streaming but I will fine tune it today. I also know that Sprint is on 3G up here as my LTE hotspot shows a signal but no internet. I will use mt Freedompop Sprint hotspot to find its tower and see what it can do.

So this is the area I built the system for. So far it is not a stunning success but it isn't a failure either. The last trip up here my Cricket phone would get a weak signal from early morning till around 9 am. Then the tower would breath as it became congested and I would get no signal at all. At least now I can stay connected, cruise the forums and use work a rounds for streaming. That in itself is a huge improvement as most will get very little or nothing at all. I will finish tweaking the Verizon and Sprint in a bit here and report that too.

Sounds like all your equipment gathering is paying off then !

You're definitely becoming the tribal expert on hotspots el cheapo .....

Thanks WO

Right now the T-mobile is kicking ... and taking names. I am watching the secret life of pets on the Amazon firestick.

Awesome , I'm definitely gonna have to pick your brain when I get back out on the road.
Right now , I'm using mostly free wi-fi and a Straighttalk Hotspot that I pay $40 every 2 months for 4Gigs of data.....

I really suggest you get a AT&T Mobley before the deal ends on the 17th. Unlimited AT&T high speed for $20 a month is hard to beat. You will pay for a set up fee of $45 but the Mobley is free.

Does ATT allow for using your cell phone as a Hotspot instead of buying a Mobley? I'm Verizon Unlimited and it's $25 a month to tether my phone and use it.

Okay Jim, I just bought the Mobley, it will be here in three days. I should have asked a couple of questions before I signed up but can an IPad be connected to it? I'm not sure how it works but I'll trust you on this. Anything special to do hooking it up?

Rob

You will likely need a adapter but otherwise the Moblet acts like a hotspot that most any computer, tablet, phone, smart TV, firestick or the like can connect to it wirelessly. The adapter will allow it to be used outside of the truck, some plug into wallwarts, ciggy plugs, USB outlets or 120v.

Here is a page of adapters on ebay or you can search the same on Amazon.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...ley+adapter.TRS1&_nkw=mobley+adapter&_sacat=0

I use the first offered because I have my own USB wallwarts and cigarette plu adapters.

Bob

I am not real up on AT&T's other offerings but if I remember right they do not allow it on their unlimited plan. Nor does their MNVO Cricket but they do on their smaller 8 and 12 gig plans. It cost a additional $10 a month to use the hotspot on top of their $60 12 gig plan. The Mobley is unlimited and a hotspot for twice what they charge just to use it on the phone.

I said I would update after I tuned for the Verizon 3G and Sprint. Verizon 3G gets a full rack of bars in the cradle and delivers about as good of speed as the Mobley on HSPA+. It can be used for streaming with a few work arounds and has stayed usable all day for the better part. Neither of my Sprint devices are giving me anything usable right now. I thought I would see 3G since the LTE hotspot showed a unusable signal but the Freedompop hot spot shows nothing at all. I am going to assume that Sprint is roaming off of Verizon up here.

To give you a idea of how the directional antenna affects the hotspots, if I were to lay a clock under it T-Mobile is at 9, the usable AT&T tower is at 11, Verizon shares the tower that has congested AT&T at 1 and Sprint is no where to be found. So I have to rotate the antenna every time I switch hotspots.

I already got a shipping notice for my Mobley, quick service.

Good news Rob. Now order your adapter so you can use it once the Mobley gets there.

It's the last week to get this deal on the Mobley.

Okay, what sort of adapter will I need? Amazon has a huge sale for Prime Members, now's the time to get it.

A few up dates.

First I have to say how much I have appreciated Bob and Doug watching over Max when I have to run to Denver. This isn't like Flagstaff where a quick drive gets me into town. Denver is a hour away and that isn't counting rush hour traffic. By the time I get there, run errands, maybe eat and drive back it is 6 hours. They have made it so I don't have to worry about Max since I can't take him in the 90+ degree heat. Thank you both.

Another update is about my Sprint service. Neither the Freedompop Mingle or 4Gcommunity showed a usable signal when I got to the Colorado GTG site but after taking the 4Gcommunity hotspot to Denver yesterday I have a few bars of LTE making it faster than the other three networks. It must have updated once it connected because the Freedompop hotspot still shows no signal at all. I will take it to Denver the next time to see if it updates too.

This makes only a few times that I have seen all four services present in one location. The first step is always see who connects and then who connects the fastest. Right now it is Sprint since the other three are generally congested by this time of the day.

Hey Jim, how is your camper holding up to the rigors of daily use? I keep reading on the more traditional RV sites that "they just aren't built for continuous duty", so I thought I'd ask your take on it??

It is holding up great Queen. I just took someone to some of my favorite sites. He ended up saying he would not take his Yukon back there much less his trailer. lol

Too funny! Sure speaks well for the R-Pod!
