Hello everyone, I'm Jake. I'm still in high school, so that may lower my "credibility" with some of you, but whatever. I don't plan on vandwelling, well, ever, but, like most people, I like gathering information and vandwelling fascinates me.

As said before, I'm not out of high school yet and have yet to even get my first car. However, looking around I think my dream car would be a smaller white chevy astro van with no back side windows. I mostly want this for carrying around things like it's intended for. I would like to add a third seat behind the passenger seat. After reading around on this site I think it'd be nifty to add an extra battery connected to an inverter and one outlet for various applications like phone charging and whatnot.

I don't have any fascination with becoming a permanent vandweller, however, in the distant future, I think it would be a good experience to create a vandwelling van to vandwell for one year or so to see the country and have a relaxing time. After coming home, selling the van, or possibly keeping it in case I ever get the urge to do it again.

Of course, I'm just daydreaming here, but you never know, that's how all great things have to start!
Welcome, Jake. And no, your being in high school does not lower your credibility with me. Actually, it tells me you're starting to "think out of the box" a little (OK, a lot ) sooner than I did. And that's good.

Keep up the daydreaming! That's how things get started.

Meg

Hey Jake, welcome.no rules here about living in a van, boat, car , plane, motorcycle, house, whatever. Try the traveling bit, you might like it. If not ,no one says you can't live in a small house ( tinyhouse.com) and use a lot of what you learned here. Also check out vandwellers@yahoo for more great ideas and lots of people living in vans, houses and everything in between.

Welcome Jake,

Not every here lives in a van, but there's great iformation here. Doing an experiemnt and travelling for a year is a great idea, it gives you a taste. I do suggest before you try to make sure you know as much as you can, and prepare properly. It 'll mean the difference between doing it for a year and coming out of it happy, and doing it for a month and thinking it was the worst experience of your life.

When I was still in High School, I reseached living in the woods, building a little cabin, and living off the land. It doesn't bring down credability! Check out the many blogs from people doing it, and learn everything you can!

Most of us have our blogs in our signatures. You never know, you might fall in love with the freedom that vandwelling affords, and do it until you've saved up for a big fat downpayment on a house.
I don't know if any of you have seen this video, but I really like the style of this van. It's very neat and clean and stylish. I'm posting it in this thread because if I made a van it would be in this style.
