How do you toast your bread

I agree, you do have to figure out how to get what you want out of it. A diffusion plate toaster or even coffee can version is faster and easier for a single slice. The stove top toaster is the only way I have to get multiple slices done at the same time. Otherwise somebody is going to get cold toast.
 
I'm surprised how many people use a pan to fry the bread. I thought it was my own invention, at least doing it without any cheese between slices.

As for just drying out and/or burning a slice of bread, what a waste of nice bread! It's even a waste of old bread, though something is needed when it really gets past it's prime.

Hot toast with butter or even better, peanut butter melting into it.....mmmmmmmmm

Plus you can't break the yolk and dip a soft piece of bread in it.
 
I use a Camp A Toaster stovetop toaster every day. Ya gotta pay attention and it's an art trying to keep the smoke alarm from blaring vs opening up and letting cold air pour in.

But, I have proper toast. That's worth a while lot of inconvenience.
