I sometimes long to live in a car rather than feeling semi-stuck in my second floor apartment.

I know you guys have all kinds of tricks to deal with heat and cold. But what if it rains heavily all day, or is so cold and windy or so hot you don't even want to leave your car? Can you really drive somewhere nicer that fast?

How many days a year do you feel basically stuck inside a tiny space, even if you get to drive around and look at things? Maybe you stay near a city for days like that so you can go into malls or the library? Do you force yourself to get out and take a walk no matter what it's doing out there?

If you are doing this by choice, do you question yourself a lot on bad weather days?

There is a huge variation of rigs represented here. From big rigs to tents so everyone might have different opinions.

I was the one that could always entertain myself as a kid but I still don’t really like having to stay inside for days.

Usually it’s pretty nice in Quartzsite for the winter but these last couple of weeks have brought some high wind days which keeps just about everyone inside.

I know it won’t last forever but it can be pretty grim while it does.

Yeah, I'm mainly addressing this to people who live in smaller vehicles. Maybe I should have posted in Cars

If camping or living out of your car, and on the really unpleasant days, you could take a drive into town and spend most of the day in a shopping mall, a museum, a library, maybe spend the evening in a bowling alley or movie theatre....

Use the bad weather as an excuse to enjoy something.

Exactly. If the weather is making you miserable, just go somewhere where it doesn't make you miserable.

But I tend to do exactly as I did when I lived in a house or apartment - curl up in my cozy little house with a good book. And, if it's not too harsh outside, with a window open so I can experience and enjoy the weather without being out in it.

My cozy little house these days is an ordinary cargo van. Right now it's pretty darn windy outside. My side door is wide open - not facing the wind - and my rear doors, which do face the wind, are cracked a bit. So I have a gentle breeze at a very comfortable temperature blowing over me.

One of the things I always liked about camping is being closer to the weather. I find a van is a very good way to do that without enduring discomfort. YMMV.

I live in a Kia Forte. I go out taking pictures, love going to beaches. I plan on doing a winter excursion touring the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. I’ll start at the southwest most tip of Texas and work my way to Florida. May take a few months to finish as I’ll go slow.

I love going to libraries but it depend on their local rules in regards to Covid.

I watch a ton of movies and TV shows on my phone and laptop, so plenty of entertainment for me. Honestly, it’s no much different than when I was in a house, just a smaller space.

The basic trick is to watch watch the long range forecasts so you have plenty of time to move along.

Live this way a while and you become familiar with the regional weather cycles.

Personally I love weather. Although having said that I do follow good weather so the occasional bad weather is a welcome reprieve from the boring. Highdesertranger

I don't live in my van full time, so before I go I look at the long term forecast. They are not always reliable and things do change, so you just take the good with the bad. Having said that, weather can be part of the adventure. Remember camping as a kid? You always remember the bad weather days......like when it rained and your tent got soaked along with everything else. :) Staying in a van when it rains all day can be something to live through, especially if its mixed with hail.
