How do you find a caravan?

I am planning to leave alaska next fall and head towards Arizona and Southern California. I have a friend who lives near me and we will probably travel together through Canada. She has a camper van but I am traveling in my converted Subaru. I am feeling vulnerable about boondocking alone so am looking to connect with a caravan.
